Today may have been the last day in the White House for Melania Trump, but the First Lady is stepping out in style.
Melania Trump and her husband, departing U.S. President Donald Trump, opted not to attend President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration today. Instead, the couple bid a final farewell to the White House with closing remarks before climbing aboard Marine One. The couple flew to their Florida home where they will continue on as private citizens.
Melania has exquisite fashion sense and a taste for expensive garments. During their final address, the departing first lady wore black from head to toe as if attending a funeral. She wore a Chanel jacket, a Dolce and Gabbana dress and heels by Christian Louboutin.
Some spectators noted that Trump was not donning any apparel from American fashion designers. She took with her a handbag that was the talk of the social media fashion world. The purse, a crocodile Birkin bag from Hermès, is worth upwards of $50,000. One fashion accessory notably missing from her and the president’s attire was COVID-19 protective face masks.
Melania Trump Leaves the White House in Style
With her keen fashion eye, it comes a no surprise that Melania underwent a change of clothes before arriving in Palm Beach, Florida. After the couple’s final flight on Air Force One, Melania emerged from the plane in an orange emblazoned Gucci dress. Fox News reports that the First Lady’s Gucci dress retails for $3,700. The stunning orange and blue was a sharp contrast from her earlier entirely black ensemble.
In her departure statement, Melania says serving as the nation’s First Lady has been a tremendous honor she will long cherish. She also thanks the American people for their support and says she hopes for a bright future for the country.
“Being your first lady was my greatest honor — thank you for your love and support,” she says. “You will be in my thoughts and prayers. God bless you all, God bless your families and God bless this beautiful nation.”
The Trumps broke a long-standing tradition of attending the incoming president’s inauguration and swearing-in ceremony. Instead, the couple headed to Florida and will stay at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago resort.
