Authorities released more information about the death of a missing Houston hiker. The man was last seen at the end of August in Wyoming. Robert “Bob” Lowery, 46, died by suicide with a gunshot wound to the head, law enforcement officials announced Tuesday. The cause of death was determined by Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue.
Lowery went missing sometime near the end of August. He was possibly in the park around August 20 in Wyoming. However, nobody heard from the man since that time. This would have been at the Black Canyon Trail in Bridger-Teton National Forest, according to Fox News. The father of two was missing more than a month when authorities discovered his body.
Nationwide efforts to locate missing 22-year-old Gabby Petito largely led authorities to find the missing man. His body was at the base of a ravine when authorities found him on September 28.
“Bob has been a wonderful father, son, brother and friend,” his family said in a statement last week. “Our family wants to thank the news media and others involved in the search for our privacy at this difficult time.”
Lowery was father to a 12-year-old and 15-year-old. His sister has since set up a GoFundMe account to help with Lowery’s children’s “education and future.”
Gabby Petito Case Helps Other Missing People
“The widespread news coverage of the Gabby Petito search helped bring light to Lowery’s case, and resulted in at least two members of the public calling local authorities this past weekend with new information about his possible last seen point,” officials said in a statement.
Gabby Petito’s remains were found in the Grand Teton National Park in September. Her family has been resolute with their efforts to help locate other missing people. Turning tragedy into a mission, the Petito and Schmidt families set up the Gabby Petito Foundation. Its goal is to assist search efforts for other missing people.
Many are praising the families for the move. Especially in a time where there was much debate surrounding the media attention Gabby’s case received.
When Gabby Petito’s remains were recovered, an autopsy showed homicide was the cause of death. However, authorities have not released her manner of death.
Her fiancé Brian Laundrie is reportedly the last person to see her alive. He is the sole person of interest in her case. He’s also currently missing. But a nationwide manhunt – by law enforcement and web sleuths alike – has ensued.
Questions keep arising about his family’s involvement in Laundrie’s disappearance. There is widespread speculation over if his parents helped the 23-year-old escape. Many are also calling out his sister, Cassie Laundrie, for her conflicting statements.
Brian Laundrie is still missing.
