NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace joined the online conversation regarding Vice President Mike Pence. During the 2020 vice presidential debate, a fly landed on Pence’s head. The moment went viral on social media.
Wallace responded to a Twitter poll asking, “Who would you rather see on DBC?” Possible answers included Donald Trump, Mike Pence, Kamala Harris, and Joe Biden. But Wallace had a better candidate in mind. He chose, “the fly.”
Bubba Wallace drew various reactions from his followers.
Several followers thought Wallace’s tweet was hilarious. But some Twitter users criticized the NASCAR driver. They also called out his recent loss in Talladega. During the NASCAR Cup Series race, Wallace ended up wrecking his car twice. The second wreck cost him the lead during the race after he hit the wall.
One user wrote, “Hey Bubba, at least 1 of these 2 will finish their race.” And another agreed, “Stick to racing, and win something.”
A parody account for the Debate Fly hilariously threw its name in the ring for president. It urged Wallace’s followers, “Vote for me 2020.”
A fly landed on Mike Pence during the vice presidential debate.
The insect landed on Pence’s head while he responded to a question regarding law enforcement. The fly lingered for nearly two minutes. Pence didn’t appear to notice it. A similar moment happened in the 2016 presidential debate with Hillary Clinton. A fly landed on her forehead, and the moment went viral online.
Several politicians have battled the pesky insect in recent years. Earlier this year, a fly landed on the face of former New York mayor Mike Bloomberg during a speech at the Democratic National Convention.
“I would vote for the fly on Mike Bloomberg’s face,” one Twitter user wrote at the time.
Additionally, Donald Trump had his own fly moment in 2016 when a fly landed in his hair during a presidential rally. Both the current and former president had their run-ins with flies. In 2009, PETA also criticized Barrack Obama when he killed a fly during a CNBC interview.
