Over the years, we’ve learned that red flags mean danger. It’s almost coded into our DNA. You see bright colors, you turn the other way. That’s just how it works. In recent times, we started using “red flag” as shorthand for a warning sign before entering a relationship. Now, the red flag is a meme that embodies the types of folks we’d rather distance ourselves from.

People of all stripes have come forward to share their personal red flag meme. Even some country stars like George Strait have joined in on the fun. At the same time, barbecue aficionados have tossed in their two cents.

Let’s start our journey into the red flag meme with one of our own.

Hank Hill once shared the proper reaction to someone asking for a well-done steak is to “Ask them politely, yet firmly, to leave.” He would have retweeted our red flag meme for sure. Cooking a streak that long is heresy. The only way to make it worse is by putting ketchup on it.

While we’re on the subject of meat, Wright’s Barbecue dropped a solid red flag meme about brisket.

Really, who doesn’t like brisket? I’d say people who have never had one done right. Meme or no meme, not liking brisket is a red flag and maybe a cry for help.

The Red Flag Meme Goes Country

We can probably get over not liking brisket or even enjoying an overcooked steak. However, we’re a little more touchy when it comes to music. It seems like we’re not alone in that regard. We found some great examples of the red flag meme on the country music side of Twitter.

We’ll kick things off with the Patron Saint of Appalachia herself, Dolly Parton.

Furthermore, if they don’t get the reference, it’s going to be a hard no for us. The same goes for George Strait’s post. Missing that reference is a major red flag. Or, to bring another meme into the mix. “If she doesn’t catch that reference, she’s too young for you bro.”

One country music fan said the quiet part out loud.

If you don’t enjoy country music, you can’t sit with us. As a matter of fact, you may not want to. Our speakers are always pumping out country gold.

After seeing all the red flag memes, I had to get in on the trend. I think my fellow Outsiders will be on board with this one.

Saying you don’t like Turnpike Troubadours is like saying you don’t enjoy good music. If they can’t enjoy good music, that’s a deal-breaker.

Let’s take this meme as far as it will go. Find us on Twitter and let us know what throws up red flags for you.
