Shaquille O’Neal admits straight-up during his recent “The Big Podcast with Shaq” that he’s “never voted in his life” – until 2020!
“I’m honest, I’ve never voted in my life. This is my first time voting.” What a quote to hear from Shaquille O’Neal! The NBA legend confirms it himself on his latest “Big Podcast with Shaq.”
TMZ broke the news this morning after posting the revealing clip from Shaq’s podcast.
“I’ve never voted before, America,” Shaq continues. “But, now I’m doing all these voting campaigns and ya know one thing I never like to do, is be a hypocrite.”
And this, right here, is the most shocking part of this revelation! Shaq has become very involved with voting initiatives, and has even started one himself. His #MyStartingFive challenge helps people register to vote before Election Day (2020). Shaq himself, however, has never voted!
Shaquille O’Neal: “I voted for the first time and it feels good”
Until now. “In other words America, I voted for the first time and it feels good.” And vote he did. Shaq describes the process of filling out an absentee ballot to a tee – and the pride in his voice is evident.
Perhaps the most shocking takeaway from this, is that Shaquille O’Neal… never voted for Barack Obama. He had two opportunities to do so, but did not – which seems…odd. This is especially perplexing, given how outspoken Shaq has been about his love for the former president in the past. Shaq has even been to the White House, dined with Obama, and shared many events and photographs and laughs with him. The two even “sat next to each other” as virtual guests at Game 1 of the NBA finals during COVID! Oof.
Understandably, Shaq’s podcast co-hosts were in absolute denial-mode. One thing they can no longer harp on him for, however, is not-voting. You can listen to the full clip over at TMZ.
Election Day is November 3rd, America. Be sure to get out there and vote! Even if – like Shaq – it is your first time.
