Motorcycle enthusiasts from all over celebrated the start of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally yesterday with a parade and Opening Ceremony.

For those who couldn’t see the Opening Ceremony for themselves, the event holders posted a slideshow of highlights earlier on their official Instagram page. Prominent in those photos were the famous Budweiser Clydesdales.

These six-foot-tall horses helped pull the beer company’s iconic red and white Studebaker-built Budweiser wagon. And racing around on top of the wagon were the Clydesdales’ trusty companions, the Budweiser dalmatians. Check them out in the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally’s post below!

According to News Center 1, these horses are bred in Warm Springs Ranch in Boonville, Missouri. They’re selected to pull the wagon based on temperament and looks, with all eight horses matching in coloring. The Clydesdales are all supposed to be a nice bay brown, with a black mane and tail, four white stockinged feet, and white markings on their faces.

Other photos in the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally slideshow featured legions of motorcycles cruising down Main Street. Several riders had American flags strapped on the backs of their rides. But all of them had happy or excited grins on their faces.

And one photo showcased the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Grand Marshall,  Jody Perewitz. She spoke at the Opening Ceremony to welcome hundreds of thousands of enthusiasts to the world’s largest motorcycle gathering.

Many people might know Perewitz as the holder of 16 land speed records, one of which is a world record. But she’s also well-known for topping 200 miles per hour in an American V-Twin motorcycle, which is no easy feat. When Perewitz isn’t competing in different motorcycle endurance competitions, she helps her legendary dad, Dave Perewitz, build bikes.

Sturgis Motorcycle Rally 2021 Wraps Day 1

Yesterday kicked off Day 1 of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, which runs until August 15. After the Opening Ceremony wrapped in the afternoon, participants could hit up the many shops and vendors up and down Main Street, or grab a drink.

Several rock bands also performed at the event last night. Riders were treated to a mix of groups, from The Shotgun Billys to Puddle of Mud to Blacklite District. Tonight, even more bands take the stage, including Saul, 10 Years, Drowning Pool, and Buckcherry.

If bikers are looking to socialize more, they can also check out the Mayor’s Pub Crawl tonight. They’ll drink their way to five different bars across Sturgis, led by Mayor Mark Carstensen himself. This will be the first of many more social events to come during the rally, with tomorrow featuring the Legendary Sturgis 5k.

Later this week, people should look out for musical performances from ZZ Top, Kid Rock, Clint Black, and others. ZZ Top will perform for the first time since their bassist, Dusty Hill, died on July 28.
