‘Surprise’ Stimulus Checks: Find Out If You Get $1,000 Payment

Are you one of the many Americans who may receive a surprise stimulus check in the coming weeks? Well, there is a way to find out.

It depends on which state you reside in, for starters. So if you are wondering if your state’s local government will be sending out a fourth stimulus check, this is what you need to know. For instance, if you’re a Georgia resident and a teacher or principal, then you might want to look out for the check. In Tennessee, if you are a public school employee, you should look out for the check. If you are just part-time, you should still lookout for a $500 check.

It varies from state to state.

Stimulus Checks Going Forward

Back in July if you had forgotten, over 2 million Americans received an additional $1,400 in stimulus checks. There has been much debate as to the future of such stimulus packages, and that figures to be the case for the foreseeable future. There are some lawmakers in Washington who have made the case for payments to continue going out until the pandemic concludes altogether.

The point is, there is still much debate as to the future of such payments and if this will be the final round of checks for Americans. To this point, $3,200 has been sent out to eligible Americans since the COVID-19 pandemic first began. This number could continue to rise, depending on how to figure legislation conversations go between lawmakers in Washington. The unemployment rate still sits above where the number was before the pandemic. Before the pandemic, the number sat 3.5 percent, but as of this writing, that number is still at 5.2 percent.

Debate in Washington About Stimulus Payments

There is a lot of debate both in Washington and at home about why that number continues to be the case. For instance, California is doing something different than what other states are doing. Per SFGate and a Tax Board spokesperson, “We expect the vast majority of all GSS II payments will be issued by year’s end, but they will continue into early next year.” In the golden state, they have already sent out 750,000 paper stimulus checks for this fourth round.

Per CBS News, “Almost 7 in 10 Americans who have received, or believed they would soon get, a third payment said it’s important for their near-term finances, Bankrate.com said in April.” So, questions remain as to what the future looks like for stimulus checks, but what we do know is that some folks in certain states should be on the lookout for a fourth round of stimulus checks sooner rather than later. Reportedly, up to 9 million residents of California will qualify for this round of payments.
