SUV Crashes Through Wisconsin Christmas Parade Killing At Least 5

The small town of Waukesha, Wisconsin is now in mourning after an SUV drove through a crowd that was gathered for the town’s 58th annual Christmas parade on Sunday (November 21st).

According to the New York Times, the incident at the Christmas parade happened just before 4:40 p.m. The red SUV reportedly drove through the barricades and barreled through the crowd. At least five people were killed and over 40 were injured.

“Today our community faced horror and tragedy in what should have been a community celebration,” the Mayor of Waukesha, Shawn Reilly, stated about the Christmas parade incident. He also described the happy crowd as he marched through the parade route prior to the incident. “I’m deeply saddened to know that so many in our community went to a parade, but ended up dealing with injury and heartache.”

The Waukesha Police Department issued a statement about the Christmas parade incident, confirming that five people are dead. The department notes that the numbers may change as the department collects additional information. “Many people have self-transported to area hospitals.”

The Police Department reveals it closing off Waukesha’s Main Street from Barstow & Main to Wisconsin and Main. “The street will not be open before mid-day tomorrow, Monday, November 22nd. Businesses in this area should remain closed as entry and exit from Main Street will not be allowed.”

Authorities also declare that the scene where the incident happened is still fluid and the investigation is ongoing. “The community mourns the loss of our community members and those injured. We are asking for the community to come together this time and to keep the families in your prayers.”

A person of interest is in custody. 

The Milwaukee Dancing Grannies Were Among Those Impacted By the Waukesha Christmas Parade Incident 

Among the organizations affected by the Waukesha Christmas Parade tragedy was the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies. The group issued a statement on Monday about the ordeal. The organization confirms that members were among those who died.

“Our group was doing what they loved. Performing in front of crowds in a parade putting smiles on faces of all ages, filling them with joy and happiness. While performing, the grannies enjoyed hearing the crowds cheers and applause. Which certainly brought smiles to their faces and warmed their hearts.”

The Milwaukee Dancing Grannies stated that those who died were extremely passionate Grannies. They were the glue that held the organization together. “Our hearts are heavy at this most difficult time. Please keep them, their families, friends, the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies, and everyone who lives have forever changed in your thoughts and prayers.”

Waukesha Xtreme Dance Team has a statement on their Facebook as well. “Thank you to everyone who has reached out checking on the safety of Xtreme Dance Team embers and their families. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”
