Dallas-based restaurant chain TGI Friday’s has found a creative way to advertise one of its most popular menu items-by nominating it for president.
The restaurant announced the potato skin’s candidacy for president on Thursday and launched a comical website promoting the spud’s campaign.
The potato skin’s campaign website can be found at www.potatoskin4president.com.
“Born and raised on a small farm in Maine, Loaded Potato Skin understands the value of hard work, integrity and a good hand soap,” the site reads. “Growing up, he was gifted musically and was proud to be fifth chair in the trombone section of his high school band. His friends say he is loyal and ‘super fun to be around,’ and is always there for them when they want to get together. Graduating in the top 50 percent of his class, he went on to work part time at the local brewery, while still helping his folks out on the farm.”
Along with drawing a few laughs, the website also encourages people to vote in the 2020 election. Visitors are also invited to “join the party,” which can earn them a free appetizers.
TGI Friday’s Appoints Campaign Manager
The potato skin even has its own “campaign manager” in Sara Bittorf, also TGI Friday’s Chief Experience Officer.
“He has always been a potato for the people, if that makes sense,” Bittorf said. “I mean, its 2020. It could happen.”
A TGI Friday’s spokesperson confirmed to Fox News the “campaign” is designed to remind customers to “put their differences aside.”
It is actually the second time TGI Friday’s has placed the potato skin on an election ballot. The spud is said to have run a “surpriingly strong campaign” in 2016.
There is no word yet on if the potato skin plans to participate in any presidential debates.
