On Saturday, UFC fighter Colby Covington announced that his COVID-19 tests were negative even though he was a guest in the room last week for the presidential debate.
President Donald Trump personally invited Covington to the Sept. 29 debate in Cleveland as a special guest of POTUS. The UFC star became close with Trump during the past few years, and has been a staunch supporter of the president.
Following Trump and several people close to him testing positive for coronavirus, many wondered about Covington’s health. Covington responded over the weekend stating that he’s healthy. Additionally, he used the announcement to take a few shots at Trump’s critics.
“For the people who constantly slander my name, but are all of a sudden concerned with my health and well being: I’m COVID free,” explained Covington. “I’ve been tested 7 times in the past 3 weeks, including prior to and after meeting with the POTUS. I was also tested during fight week, as well as before and after the debate. ALL NEGATIVE.”
“Speaking of ALL NEGATIVE,” Colby continued. “How about all the slime in Hollywood and woke sports wishing harm on a 74 year old grandfather!?! How tolerant! Unfortunately for them and fortunately for America, @realdonaldtrump is a fighter!!! “
“He KO’s the fake news media daily. He KO’d Slow Joe and Chris Wallace at the same time on Tuesday! Now it’s time for a casual weekend KO of COVID! Here’s to a speedy recovery and 4 MORE YEARS!!!”
Trump Congratulates Covington After UFC Victory
Covington and the president share a friendly relationship that has been on display multiple times. The UFC fighter is well-known for wearing MAGA hats in post-fight interviews and is a vocal proponent of the president.
Just a few weeks ago, after Covington’s win over Tyron Woodley, the fighter received a call from Trump mid-interview. The president congratulated Covington after his victory at UFC Vegas 11.
“You are a great fighter, man,” Trump says to Covington. “That was easy work.”
Covington went on to explain to the president that he was motivated after seeing him and shaking his hand at a rally the week before.
“You gave me the dragon energy when you shook my hand on Sunday,” Covington boasted.
“I’m your fan, you’re my fan,” Trump responded to the fighter.
