On Wednesday morning, a Vermont man spent time paying his respects to more than 3,200 veterans laid to rest at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
“It’s special down here. It’s a beautiful, beautiful place,” said Navy veteran Dwayne Williams.
Williams, from Randolph, VT, said he normally goes to the cemetery to visit the grave of his Army veteran father. He frequently thanks the other veterans buried there for their service as well, according to WPTZ-TV of Plattsburgh, N.Y.
He says the men and women buried at the veteran’s cemetery are all heroes who deserve our respect.
“I wanted to touch every stone here today and say their names and pay respect to these men and women that have served our country,” he said. “They’re all heroes. I’m just a guy from South Burlington who just wanted to pay respect.”
Williams thinks it is the least he could do to honor them in some way. He wants the veterans who have passed to be remembered and to know they’re not forgotten and did not die in vain.
