Joe and Jill Biden gave a special thanksgiving message to firefighters and health care workers via video calls on Thursday.
The projected president-elect tweeted out a video and added an important message.
“Millions of front line workers — like the firefighters and nurses I called today — worked away from their families on Thanksgiving. Our nation is grateful to all of you,” Biden captioned the clip.
On Thanksgiving, the couple made video calls to frontline workers from their home. Speaking casually to the heroes, the Bidens wave and smile as they exclaim, “Happy Thanksgiving!”
Jill Biden spoke directly to the workers, asking, “How are you all feeling?” One person replied, “It’s crazy what’s happening.”
In addition, Joe Biden made sure to comment on their work as they continue battling the COVID-19 pandemic. “No one understands how important you are until we need you,” he said.
“We just wanted to call and wish you happy Thanksgiving and say, God-willing, next Thanksgiving will be very different, hopefully. We just can’t thank you enough.”
Joe & Jill Biden Urge Americans to Stay Home for the Holiday
The Bidens delivered a formal Thanksgiving message when they posted another video, in which they urged Americans to have smaller gatherings.
“Thanksgiving has always been a special time for the Biden Family,” Joe Biden said. “For us, we had a long long tradition of traveling to Nantucket with our big family, a large family, every Thanksgiving. But we won’t be doing that this year. This year, we’re going to be staying in Delaware with just a small group around our dinner table.”
Biden described that the act of having a socially distanced holiday was a gift to fellow Americans.
In conclusion, he added: “I know this isn’t the way many of us hoped we’d spend our holiday. We know a small act of staying home is a gift to our fellow Americans. Yes, it’s a personal sacrifice that each of our families can make and should make to save somebody else’s life. But it’s also a shared sacrifice for the whole country. A statement about common purpose that says we care about one another. And we’re all in this together.”
