On his way to an easy touchdown, New York Giants starting Quarterback Daniel Jones succumbed to his own momentum falling short of the endzone.
The Giants were taking on the Philadelphia Eagles in a primetime Thursday Night Football game. The game pitted two teams with losing records against each other as both teams try to find footing in a woeful NFC East division.
The moment came midway through the third quarter with the Eagles ahead by three points. The Giants have just taken possession at their own 12-yard line. Jones took a perfectly executed quarterback keeper around the right end and was off to the races. He raced 80 yards and appeared to have a sure touchdown with no defender within 10 yards of him. Jones could have walked into the end zone but instead was tackled by his own two feet eight yards before scoring.
Fox NFL Commentator Joe Buck was at a loss after seeing Jones stumble to the ground after the 80-yard run.
“He trips! Absolutely all alone and he trips going into the end zone,” Buck says. “A walk-in touchdown and he trips himself.”
Buck’s partner, long-time Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Troy Aikman also could not believe what he had seen.
“That is the only way he doesn’t score,” Aikman says of Jones’ self-inflicted tumble.
The Giants would eventually score on the drive with tailback Wayne Gallman scoring on a 1-yard run. The Giants took a 14-10 lead with Gallman’s score but would ultimately fall to the Eagles by a final score of 22-21.
Jones Trends on Twitter
