Yeti Recalls Up to 241,000 Tumblers Due to Chance for Burn Hazard

Quick, check your travel mug, there’s a YETI recall.

The Austin-based company announced this week it’s recalling its “Rambler” travel mugs because of a potential burn hazard. The recall could include as many as 241,000 mugs.

YETI said the recall impacts all Black, Seafoam, Navy, Graphite, Copper, Northwoods Green, and Ice Pink 20-ounce Ramblers. If you have one of these mugs, check the bottom to see if it has a product code of 34204010.

YETI sells the mugs for $35 online and at its national retailers. If you have one of the mugs, YETI is offering a full refund. You can file for the refund on its site or visit a YETI store.

The company said the problem is with the magnetic slider lid. However, no injuries have been reported.

YETI Is a Must For Campers

Earlier this year, detailed 15 must-haves for a camping trip. A YETI cooler was listed at No. 8. The article said: “Make sure your ice lasts as long as possible with products like a Yeti or Orca cooler. You can make sure your perishables stay fresh for upwards of three days and keep all your beverages ice cold.”

YETI is a publicly-traded company. Its market is specific and it sells high-end mugs and coolers to the outdoor set. The target market includes hunters and fishermen. Water enthusiasts also enjoy the products, which keeps liquids cool or hot, depending on what’s in it.

The company was founded in 2006 by Roy and Ryan Seiders, two brothers who grew up in Driftwood, Texas, a town outside Austin.

On its site, the company lists comments from the Seiders, saying “In 2006, we founded YETI Coolers with a simple mission: build the cooler we’d use every day if it existed. One that was built for the serious outdoor enthusiast rather than for the mass-discount retailers. … That could take the abuse we knew we’d put it throughout in the field and on the water. One that simply wouldn’t break.

“We decided early on that product innovation would come from necessity and firsthand experience – not from market research and data analysis. Today, YETI products perform when it matters most – whether that be an excursion into the remote Alaskan wilderness, chasing redfish on the Gulf coast, or just getting together with friends in the backyard.”
