On September 11, the Trump family paid tribute to the memory of the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001.

“Never forget,” both Donald Jr. and Ivanka Trump tweeted.

First Lady Melania Trump had a longer message to share:

Many people responded to Trump Jr.’s retweet with critiques of his father. Others sent prayers and remembrances. Likewise, Ivanka Trump’s tweet was bombarded with a mix of Democratic memes and supportive replies.

Melania’s replies were full of allegations that she “couldn’t be bothered” to say the Pledge of Allegiance. Some critics tweeted that the Trump administration was responsible for thousands of Covid-19 deaths.

Meanwhile, President Trump and the First Lady spent the day in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. While there, they met with family members of those killed on Flight 93 that day. They also participated in a wreath laying ceremony. In the ceremony, they heard the names of all 40 passengers and crew members killed read aloud, followed by the tolling of bells, Reuters reported.

In Shanksville, the President gave a speech during which he stressed that America will always “fight back” against terrorism.

“The heroes of Flight 93 are an everlasting reminder that no matter the danger, no matter the threat, no matter the odds, America will always rise up, stand tall and fight back,” Trump said, according to the New York Post. “In the days and weeks after 9/11, citizens of all faiths, backgrounds, colors and creeds came together, prayed together, mourned together and rebuilt together.”
