Khabib Nurmagomedov has called it a career.
The undisputed lightweight champion of the UFC officially announced his retirement after defeating Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 at Fight Island.
Nurmagomedov submitted Gaethje via chokehold a minute and 34 seconds into the second round of the championship fight. Shortly after defending his lightweight title, the UFC champion fell to the mat in tears.
“This was my last fight. No way I can come here without my father,” he said after the fight. “I promise it will be my last fight. If I give my word, I have to follow this.”

Meanwhile, 32-year-old Nurmagomedov finished his MMA career with a dominant 29-0 professional record with wins against some of the best competitors in the business. He was successful in defeating superstars like Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, Gaethje and more.
Furthermore, in a tradition from fighters to symbolize the end of their career, Nurmagomedov left his gloves in the center of the Octagon before walking out.
Altogether, his next stop will no doubt be the UFC Hall of Fame. Nurmagomedov will go down in MMA history as one of the greatest of all time.
