‘Walker’: Genevieve Padalecki Explains Return to Acting with Husband Jared on Show

Actress Genevieve Padalecki admits to feeling nervous before going back on TV. But a role on “Walker” with husband Jared is a no-brainer.

Padalecki, who is married in real life to “Walker” lead star Jared Padalecki, stepped away from being on a TV series.

She had a role on the CW series “Supernatural,” where she met Jared. He was one of the stars on the show when Genevieve joined the cast as Ruby, a demonic character.

After meeting Padalecki on “Supernatural,” got married to him, and had three kids. She spent a lot of her time building up her acting resume through commercial ads and bit parts in stage roles. This, though, was before getting married.

Genevieve Padalecki Finds New Role On ‘Walker’

Padalecki kept busy as a mom and started her own blog. It had been 10 years since she tackled a new role, though, on a show. Did she still have the acting bug? Yes, she did.

Playing a role on “Walker” didn’t come about until showrunner Anna Fricke came up with the idea to offer her the role.

“Jared had been developing the show and we were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary in Park City, and his phone kept ringing at dinner and it was Anna,” Padalecki said in an interview with “Entertainment Weekly.”

“So he stepped outside and he came back and said, ‘I have something really interesting to ask you. How do you feel about playing my wife?’” Padalecki said. “The story didn’t matter. I was able to be a part of that journey and also be alongside my husband, so it really felt like a no-brainer.”

Nerves kicked in, though. Good thing she got a call to reprise her role of Ruby in an episode for “Supernatural” in its final season. Still, Padalecki said “I felt insecure about it,” speaking about playing Emily on “Walker.”

Taking On Emily Role Eased Padalecki’s Nerves

When Padalecki took the role and started looking like Emily, the nerves flew away.

She said, “Once I stepped into Emily’s shoes and sat down in the makeup chair and then got on set, it was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I remember how to do this. I love this so much.’”

Padalecki said she is surprised about how much she has missed acting.

“Walker” recorded solid numbers in its first season for the CW, already getting picked up for a second season. This doesn’t surprise Genevieve Padalecki one bit.

“I wish I could say I’m surprised, but I’m not, because I think my husband is a total bada**,” Padalecki said. “I would really love to keep working.”
