A father reportedly was involved in a close call situation when he fended off a would-be kidnapper on the streets of Portland earlier this week.

According to Breaking911, the situation happened on Tuesday (December 14th) at 3:15. Portland Central Precinct officers notably responded to a report of a kidnapping call around the area of The Fields Park, 1099 NW Overton Street. The father fought off the suspect, who eventually took off. Unfortunately, the officers were unable to locate the suspect after searching the neighborhood. The father and his 6-year-old son were unharmed in the situation. The incident was captured on video, which can be seen below.

Meanwhile, Portland police describe the suspect as being a Hispanic male, 20-30 years old, between 5’1 to 5’3 in height and heavyset. They also have dark hair, wearing a black hood and white was jeans. Their head was covered with a grey beanie hat with a ball on top. The possible kidnapper had on a pair of black and white shoes.

The Attempted Abduction Might Not Have Been a One Time Thing in Portland

According to ABC’s KOIN 6, Portland officials stated that the suspect is a stranger and the father-son attempted abduction appears to be random. However, the police are now looking into a report that someone, who matches the kidnapper, was closely following a mother pushing her baby in a stroller. This happened about half an hour prior to the attempted abduction.

The Portland police revealed that the mother was walking on Northwest Northup Street. Between Northwest 9th Avenue and Northwest 10th Avenue when the strange encounter occurred. Authorities are asking for anyone with surveillance video between 2 p.m. and 3:20 p..m. in the area to reach out so they can get a clearer view of the suspect.  Police stated they are trying to determine if that is the same suspect.

Kevin Allen of the Portland Police spoke about the concerning situation. “Because we now have this guy potentially following a mom pushing a baby stroller. And then like 30 minutes later grabbing a 6-year-old boy. We think he may have been wandering the Pearl District neighborhood looking for a potential victim.”

The Portland Police official also explained, “If it is the same suspect and he was following another parent and baby. It raises our concern level even higher. That he has some bad intent when it comes to kids. So it adds to the urgency here.”

The Portland Police went on to tell the media outlet that while random kidnappings are rare, this is a warning for parents to be aware of the situations around them and to talk to their kids. Authorities are asking for the public’s help identifying the suspect.
