WATCH: Florida Police Continue Search for Brian Laundrie, Gabby Petito’s Boyfriend

by Courtney Blackann

The suspicious details surrounding Gabby Petito’s disappearance have heightened public interest in the case. Authorities continue to look for Brian Laundrie, Gabby’s boyfriend, who was reported missing on Sept. 17.

However, so far, the frustrating search is turning up nothing. Still, law enforcement officials are working around the clock to locate the 23-year-old person of interest.

Brian Laundrie said he was going to go hiking in Sarasota County’s large Carlton Reserve Tuesday, Sept. 14. But he never returned home. Both his parents waited days before alerting police officers, saying they didn’t know where their son was. Officials have since conducted a massive search of the reserve to no avail.

In the days since, officials conducted a search of the Laundrie home, with warrants to collect evidence at the scene.

Footage of the search area being live-streamed by Fox News.

From a bird’s eye view, several FBI and police vehicles are present. The search extends throughout the 25,000-acre park which is largely shrouded by trees and dense woods. It’s also home to dangerous wildlife, including alligators. There are 80 miles of hiking trails throughout the reserve.

The cameras will continue to broadcast the search efforts as the day goes on.

Details Unfold in Gabby Petito Case

Since Brian Laundrie returned home to his parents’ Florida house on September 1, he made no attempts to help law officials find Gabby Petito. The two were on a several months-long road trip before Brian unexpectedly returned alone, without explanation.

The couple hit several national parks and were making their way across the country in a 2012 Ford Transit converted van. Both Gabby and Brian documented their travels through social media posts. Photos showed the two of them in gorgeous settings, cooking dinner and smiling.

However, things seemed less-than-perfect after the two were involved in a domestic dispute in Utah where bodycam footage revealed a distressed and crying Gabby. When police questioned Gabby, she was hyperventilating and trying to explain she suffers from anxiety. Officers put her in the back of their car to cool off and calm down. Gabby said she and Brian got into an argument and that it was a “rough morning.”

But in a 911 call that was leaked, the caller said he witnessed a man slapping the woman. Though at the time, Gabby said she was the aggressor, officials now wonder if she was downplaying the incident.

Since late August, the family of Gabby Petito said they hadn’t heard from her – which was unusual for the 22-year-old. On Sept. 11, her family filed a missing person’s report. After a massive search, authorities found human remains that were “likely” belonging to Gabby on Sept. 19.
