There are several songs that embody the patriotic spirit of the Fourth of July. “God Bless the U.S.A.,” “Where the Stars and Stripes and the Eagle Fly,” and “Fightin’ Side of Me,” are all country classics that most of us can agree belong on an Independence Day playlist. However, one song rings out above the rest. Our national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner,” is at the top of the list.
Countless songs celebrate the American spirit. However, nothing embodies the resistance of our nation like our national anthem. The song, which many sing along to without much reflection, is a harrowing story. It’s the tale of a battle raging, artillery shells flying, and a battered old flag still waving proudly in the smoke-tinged air. If you truly love our country and really listen to Francis Scott Key’s words, you can’t help but be moved by them. However, the Kentucky All-State Choir recently took things to a whole new level.
Late last night, a Twitter user by the name of TheBigDave shared a video of the Kentucky choir that will give you chills. The video features the choir singing the national anthem in a hotel in Louisville, Kentucky. Check it out below.
A Chilling Rendition of the National Anthem
The Kentucky All-State Choir was in the middle of a three-day stay at the Hyatt Regency hotel. They lined the hotel’s mezzanines and belted out the national anthem in a way that is guaranteed to give you chills. Additionally, it might make you a little misty-eyed.
The video of the impromptu national anthem performance shows the choir spread out. You can see several singers on the upper floors looking down. Additionally, there are several choir members on the ground floor. Their voices are incredible. At the same time, they took advantage of the Hyatt Regency’s incredible acoustics to amplify and elevate their performance.
All those voices coming together to flawlessly belt out our national anthem brings to mind the true spirit of this Great Nation. We are a colossal melting pot of just about every race, ethnicity, and culture on the planet. However, together we can stand as one and sing the praises of the ground on which we stand. We’ve stood through wars, terrorist attacks, and forces beyond our control attempting to divide us. Yes, America is a young nation but she is also a resilient one. Videos like this one drive that point home like a star-spangled hammer.
Keep not only this video but the words of our national anthem in your hearts and minds today, fellow Outsiders. Today, don’t focus on what makes us different. Instead, look to what makes us one. Look for the common threads. Those common threads come together to create the beautiful tapestry that is this country. Happy Fourth of July.
