Fishermen off the coast of Colombia have rescued a woman they found floating in the sea. The woman, barely conscious, has been missing for two years.
Two years after being declared missing by her family, Angelica Gaitan, 46, has been found off the coast of Colombia.
Gaitan was discovered by Rolando Visbal, a local fisherman, over a mile off the coast of Puerto Colombia. A friend of Visbal films the entire unfathomable rescue. The disoriented woman can be seen floating on the Atlantic side of the country as she suffers from severe hypothermia.
Woman at sea: “I was born again, God did not want me to die.”
The fisherman‘s incredible footage shows everything from the moment they threw her a raft – to the moment she was pulled onboard their boat. Visbal says she could not speak for many minutes. When she finally did, she was heard saying “I was born again, God did not want me to die.”
The lost woman was then taken ashore where locals tended to her before she was taken to hospital.
During her time at sea, however, Gaitan says she was circled by sharks and in and out of consciousness. After being told the time at the hospital, she believes she was drifting at sea for over eight hours.
Thankfully – before her time ran out – she was miraculously spotted by Visbal. The fisherman thought she was a log – until she began moving.
In the video, Angelica waves her hands with all the strength she has left to summon their help. Once she does, Visbal throws her a raft, then navigates their small boat toward her.

Visbal tells Caracol Radio that he almost didn’t go out to fish. Problems with his small boat engine had put off plans several times before.
“If we hadn’t had the problem with the spark plug on Friday,” the rescuer adds, “we would have gone fishing that day and the woman would be dead at sea. Gustavo warned me to be careful with the trunk and I began to turn about 15 degrees to the right, then to my surprise the trunk moved. I thought it was something supernatural.”
“So it turns out that I didn’t catch any fish that day either, but I fished a life. I think this was God’s purpose.”
