‘Yellowstone’ Season 4 Theory: Why John Dutton May Prevent Kayce and Rip from Seeking Revenge

by Jennifer Shea

Season 3 ended with a cliffhanger, so Season 4 of “Yellowstone” is sure to be packed with adventures and, yes, possibly revenge.

With John Dutton (Kevin Costner) lying by the side of a road bleeding, Beth’s (Kelly Reilly) office ripped apart by a bomb, and Kayce (Luke Grimes) cornered by gunmen, the show’s creators have given fans plenty to speculate about before Season 4 begins.

And speculate they have, as fans await the next installment of episodes. Unfortunately, show production has just kicked off in Alabama, so fans have a while to wait.

In the meantime, theories are flying about what the show’s characters will do next season.

The Express reports that most fans are blaming rival ranch owner Roarke Morris (Josh Holloway), who made a play for John’s territory last season, as the culprit behind the attacks. But some fans suspect Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) of nefarious activities.

Fans hold forth

On Reddit, “Yellowstone” fans are holding forth with new theories about what the characters will do and why. And one of the more interesting theories? That John Dutton will stop Kayce and Rip from seeking revenge for the attacks on the Dutton clan.

Redditor boogaloobrigadier said, “I could see Rip and Kayce immediately wanting a revenge tour, but JD might talk them down.”

John Dutton is nothing if not pragmatic. Kayce has shown a knack for getting into trouble and Rip is quite the enforcer. But perhaps cooler heads will prevail and postpone the vengeance for another day.

Another commenter posted, “I think the Duttons will plot revenge, but I think the first half of season four will be devoted to a whodunnit, rather than some revenge tour.”

It’s a possibility. Still, it seems unlikely that the Dutton family will let the attacks go totally unanswered. As another fan said, “Once it’s revealed who the culprit is, I think the show will kick into gear into taking that person down, whoever they may be.”
