On Saturday, iconic Scottish actor Sir Sean Connery’s family confirmed the star’s death, and an outpouring of condolences followed from fans and co-stars alike, including actor Kevin Costner.
The Yellowstone star joined countless others that took to social media to pay their respects to Connery. Costner paid tribute to his former co-star, who passed away at the age of 90, saying he was “deeply saddened” to learn of Connery’s death. He posted a two-part message on his official Twitter account and added a black and white photo of the two actors in tuxedos.
“I, like the rest of the world, was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Sean Connery this morning. Sean was a crafted actor who was enormously proud of his body of work, particularly his work on stage. And although he was a very no-nonsense person…,” Costner wrote in the post. “he was incredibly inclusive with me professionally and personally. He was the biggest star that I ever worked with and I will be forever grateful to be linked with him on film. Sean Connery was a man’s man who had an amazing career.”
Costner co-starred with Connery in the 1987 Chicago mob movie “The Untouchables.” Connery won an Oscar at the Academy Awards as the “Best Supporting Actor” for his role in the film. His character, hard-nosed cop Jim Malone, was a mentor to Costner’s character, Elliot Ness. The two led an investigation into the Chicago mob and crime boss Al Capone – played by Robert De Niro – during the Prohibition era.
Likewise, a fan named Sarah posted a photo of the pair under Costner’s tweet. She shared an alternate photo of the duo enjoying a laugh from presumably the same night as Costner’s original post.
Sean Connery’s Legendary Acting Career
Connery’s family confirmed that the actor died in his sleep overnight at the age of 90. However, it is unknown what caused his death.
The Scotsman was the first of many leading men to take on the iconic British spy character of James Bond. Connery starred in seven films of the long-running franchise beginning with 1962’s “Dr. No.” The actor went on to reprise the famous role in six more James Bond films. They included the classics “From Russia with Love,” “Goldfinger,” “Thunderball,” “You Only Live Twice,” “Diamonds are Forever,” and “Never Say Never Again.”
In the 1960s, Connery’s success on the silver screen turned him into an international star. Indeed, Connery went on to star in many other hugely popular films. They included the likes of “Murder on the Orient Express,” “The Untouchables,” and “The Rock.”
Additionally, Connery earned multiple acting awards in his storied career. He earned three Golden Globes and two BAFTA awards, along with his Oscar for the “The Untouchables.”
