There’s been a lot of hype surrounding the “Yellowstone” spin-off “1883” written by Taylor Sheridan. And at Outsider, we’re totally here for it, which is why we’re thrilled that we recently got a chance to chat with Faith Hill and discuss how her on-screen relationship with Tim McGraw translates to modern times.
The prequel will follow original Duttons James and Margaret as they travel west. It also captures the dynamic performances between real-life husband and wife team Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. We sat down with Hill to discuss the show, her role, and how certain themes of “1883” have a modern spin.
One of these things is Hill’s relationship. Margaret Dutton is a strong character. She discusses trust as an important element of hers and James Dutton’s relationship.
“There’s a lot of trust there. And respect. I guess as a backstory, ‘Hey, we’re gonna pick up and move west…West where? Uh, I don’t know, we’ll figure it out as we’re traveling along.’ I think there just has to be a lot of trust and faith that the dream of James, of my husband, is something that I’m willing to go along with,” Hill says.
She continues, “I really hadn’t thought of it like that before, but I guess it is kind of a modern relationship. Particularly, allowing my husband to take our daughter off on all these adventures, which, my gosh, was definitely unheard of for that time period. But obviously, she’s very capable.”
Faith Hill and Tim McGraw Relationship on “1883”
While Faith Hill and Tim McGraw have a wonderful, supportive relationship, the “This Kiss” singer said she actually felt uncomfortable filming certain scenes. During the “1883” filming, Hill recalls that filming intimate scenes with Tim McGraw was pretty uncomfortable.
“It was really uncomfortable for me personally because I’m a very shy person in that type of situation,” Hill told People. “I obviously feel comfortable with my husband, but this is different. For intimate scenes, I feel like that belongs to us,” she says.
Being put in a vulnerable position with anyone in front of a camera can be daunting, let alone trying to portray an intimate moment with your actual husband in front of a large crew.
But Hill is an absolute professional and was able to pull through, surely bringing life to Margaret Dutton.
The highly anticipated series is set to premiere on Paramount+ on December 19. So, really, we are just days away from glimpsing into the beginning of the Duttons and their journey to Yellowstone! And if you’re as excited as we are, then this is definitely an early Christmas gift.
