‘1883’ Star LaMonica Garrett’s Favorite Western Is a Clint Eastwood Classic

Okay, Yellowstone fans. Are we hyped for the official debut of 1883 tonight? You can bet that LaMonica Garrett sure is.

That’s right, folks — 1883 is officially premiering tonight, Sunday, December 19. The show, of course, is a spin-off of the hit show Paramount Network show Yellowstone. We already know some of the big names that appear on Yellowstone (Kevin Costner being one of them), but 1883 also features a star-studded cast. LaMonica Garrett joins the likes of Sam Elliott and country music stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.

For those who don’t know Garrett, he is actually a former slamball player. 46-years-old now, Garrett is known in the TV industry largely thanks to his role as Sheriff Cane in Sons of Anarchy from 2011-2014. Or perhaps you may recognize him from his appearances in other works like Designated Survivor and Primal. He also played Mar Novu/Monitor and Anti-Monitor in the Arrowverse.

LaMonica Garrett Has Always Loved Westerns

Nowadays LaMonica Garrett has his main focus completely on 1883. He is in full-on cowboy mode 24/7, and in a recent interview with Deadline, he shared with everyone his favorite Western movie of all time. And to almost nobody’s surprise, it turns out that it’s a Clint Eastwood film — Unforgiven. The 1992 Western is also a favorite of Yellowstone and 1883 creator Taylor Sheridan.

“There’s a line I have quoted all the time for the last 20 years,” Garrett told the outlet. “It’s at the end of the movie when Clint Eastwood’s William Munny is Bout to shoot Gene Hackman’s Little Bill in Greeley’s Tavern, and when Bill says he doesn’t deserve this, Munny says, ‘Deserve’s got nothing to do with it.’ And Bill says, ‘I’ll see you in hell, William Munny.’”

That iconic moment in Unforgiven is about to come full circle for Lamonica Garrett.

“There’s a moment in this season where, when we got to it, Taylor came over and said, ‘Let’s meat this up more. Before you shoot him…Taylor gave me this thick little monologue. It didn’t hit me until we were done shooting and I got in bed that night. I called my wife and said, ‘I had my William Munny moment!’”

‘1883’ Debuts on Sunday Night on Paramount Plus

As we mentioned above, tonight (Sunday, December 19) is the night that 1883 officially debuts on Paramount Plus. Not only that, but a special simulcast event will air on Paramount Network directly after the new Episode of Yellowstone at 9:04 p.m. EST.

In the future, however, things are going to change a little bit. The second episode of 1883 will also appear on Paramount Network. But after that, all of the subsequent episodes of the Yellowstone spin-off are set to appear exclusively on Paramount Plus.
