Paramount just shock-dropped the full trailer for Yellowstone prequel 1883, and it is everything we wanted and more.
“I admire your courage. But you’re gonna pick a fight you can’t win before long.”
So says Sam Elliott’s Shea Brennan, 1883’s hard-nosed Pinkerton agent. If you’ve been chomping at the bit to see more of Elliott, Tim McGraw, and Faith Hill in 1883, too, then today’s your lucky day, Outsider. We’ve had a few sneak peeks and scenes hit courtesy of Yellowstone Season 4, but no full trailer – until now.
Feast your eyes on the full official trailer for 1883 below. And as Paramount says, “The journey begins Dec. 19, exclusively on Paramount Plus.”
From Academy Award nominee Taylor Sheridan, co-creator of Yellowstone, 1883 follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. Staring Academy Award nominee Sam Elliott and country music stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. 1883 is streaming December 19 exclusively on Paramount+.Paramount Plus
By the looks of it, there will be no shortage of gunfights; exactly what Western fans expect out of the genre. But what else have we learned from this first official full trailer?
What We’re Learning from the ‘1883’ Trailer
“My family’s heading here tonight and then we’re headin’ North. And we’ll keep headin’ North ’til I find country that’s worth the journey.”
We hear Tim McGraw’s James Dutton offer this dialogue. Right off the bat, this tells us that original reports of the Duttons fleeing poverty on the East Coast (think New England) were correct. If they were, then the Duttons will be meeting up in Fort Worth Texas. From there, their Northern journey will take place; one that eventually leads to the founding of the Dutton Yellowstone Ranch in Montana.
Aiding the ancestral Dutton family in their journey will be Pinkerton Agent Shea Brennan, portrayed by Western icon Sam Elliott. By the looks of the full trailer, Elliott is set to lead the show’s cast alongside McGraw and Hill, too, instead of being a supporting role.
This, of course, is excellent news for Sam Elliott fans (see: everyone).
Elliott himself is excited to be a part of the show, too.
“It all starts with the writing. And Taylor Sheridan is a brilliant writer,” Elliott said in a statement after his 1883 casting announcement.
“I think the Western genre speaks clearly to both of us. The classic struggles of man against man, man against nature, and man against himself,” the veteran actor continues. “It’s all there, in ‘1883,’ and I’m honored to be a part of it.”
As always, Outsider will be back with more on 1883 as it develops ahead of the Dec. 19 premiere.
