‘1883’ Star Tim McGraw Introduces His Horse, JW

Tim McGraw has introduced us to his horse JW via Twitter post. 1883 has proven to be challenging to film, but at least we know that McGraw is feeling some sense of harmony with his horse. McGraw plays as James Dutton on the Paramount+ series, which is a prequel to the popular show Yellowstone.

“Meet JW. He’s been real good to me on @1883official!! Hasn’t bucked me off yet….,” McGraw joked on Twitter.

We suspect that JW won’t be bucking McGraw off anytime soon. Unlike some of the other cast members in the Yellowstone universe, McGraw grew up riding horses and is familiar with them. Even if he successfully manages to not get thrown off, that doesn’t mean that JW doesn’t try sometimes. To add to the authenticity of the show, the stars often film in potentially dangerous situations.

For McGraw, one scene had JW constantly trying to throw him off into the water. “Just about every scene I shot with my horse he was trying to throw me in the middle of the river,” he said. “I had one scene where my horse is raring up. Its hooves are slashing in the air and my hat falls, I catch it and put it back on. It shows the chaos and the danger and the precarious situation that everybody was in.”

Jen Landon Has Horse Experiences On Set That Are “Healing”

Yellowstone star Jen Landon has often talked about her experiences with horses. Similar to McGraw‘s experience, she grew up riding horses. However, she stopped after her mother was in a serious riding accident. She was very young when the accident took place.

Pretty much every character in the Yellowstone universe rides horses, so horseback riding skills are a must. In fact, when Landon’s team auditioned her for the part of Teeter, they asked if she had any horseback riding experience. Even though she did have experience, her team took it a step further. She told them about her experiences growing up with horses, and her team translated that into her being a “professional horseback rider.” She laughed about the exaggeration on the official Yellowstone podcast with her host and castmate, Jefferson White.

Even though it’s funny to think back on, Landon actually came into the show with a fear of horses. “So coming in, I actually had a lot of horse fear, ’cause I did grow up with horses,” she told White. “My mom had a really, really bad fall, and was dragged around an arena with her foot stuck in a stirrup. And she really shouldn’t have survived that, and I was still quite young. But that was the end of horseback riding, so I didn’t really get to reclaim that until joining the show. It was really healing on one level.” We’re glad that Yellowstone and 1883 stars are taking the time to bond with their horses and the nature around them. It all comes through the screen and adds to the experience.
