Cole Hauser to “Yellowstone” fans is Rip Wheeler. It’s hard to imagine him as anything else.

However, there was a time when Hauser was just cutting his teeth in the acting world before he took on the “Yellowstone” character that leaves him unrecognizable. The 45-year-old actually booked a couple of roles in films that helped launch his career.

So who was Cole Hauser before “Yellowstone’s” rough Rip Wheeler?

Cole Hauser Makes Silver Screen Debut

Cole Hauser books one of his first major roles alongside other up-and-coming actors like Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Brendan Fraser in “School Ties.”

“Set in the 1950s, a star-quarterback is given an opportunity to attend an elite preparatory school but must conceal the fact that he is Jewish,” the synopsis reads on IMDB.

Hauser plays Jack Connors, a football teammate of Fraser’s, in the 1992 film. The actor’s character is from an affluent family and is a popular student on campus.

Hauser Gets ‘Dazed and Confused’

Next up on Hauser’s list of iconic movies is “Dazed and Confused.” This cult classic features not only Hauser but award-winning actors Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson. Additionally, Ben Affleck is in this coming of age film, too.

Hauser takes on the role of a football athlete again. This time his name is Benny and he takes the game very seriously, unlike his fellow teammate Pink.

Warning: explicit language in clip.

Hauser’s curly hair and jock attitude fill this stereotypical role in the 1993 movie. In a 2014 interview, the actor talks about his time on “Dazed and Confused.”

“I was actually 17,” Hauser declares his age at the time of filming the movie. “I was the proper age, and a lot of the guys were.”

“When I realized it was a real success, I was walking through Blockbuster back in the day and it was attached to ‘Fast Times at Ridgemont High’ and I was like ‘oh my God! ‘Dazed and Confused’ and “Fast Times’ together in a box cassette…’ That’s when I like this is obviously doing very well as a cult class,” Cole Hauser continues.

Hauser Goes Hunting

Another iconic film that Cole Hauser was cast for in the ’90s is “Good Will Hunting.” The actor once again is joined by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.

Hauser plays Billy Mc Bride in the popular 1997 film. “Good Will Hunting” is about a genius janitor, who works at M.I.T. He eventually receives mentoring by a psychologist (Robin Williams) to help him find his path in life.

Cole Hauser’s Billy is one of Will (Damon) and Chuckie’s (Ben Affleck) childhood friends from the neighborhood.

Moreover, Hauser continues to go on and have a successful acting career, despite some early on thoughts. Read more here on why Cole Hauser didn’t think that acting was in the cards for him.
