“Yellowstone” star Kelsey Asbille has a lot of scenes with Luke Grimes, who plays Kayce Dutton, and Brecken Merrill, who plays Tate Dutton. But she says she also enjoyed it when Monica paired up with Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) in Season 3. And like her co-stars, she’s excited at the new additions to the cast.
In a recent interview with CBR.com, Asbille talked about how Monica might expand her horizons and interact with a broader range of Dutton Ranch denizens in future seasons.
“My go-to for this answer is obviously Beth,” Asbille said when asked who else she’d like to have scenes with. “I loved working with Kelly and would love to again. But also we have such an incredible ensemble. And we have Jacki Weaver coming in. We have Will Patton, who’s amazing. So yeah, I don’t know. Let’s say Will Patton this time. I don’t know how the two of them would connect, but who knows.”

In Season 4 of ‘Yellowstone,’ All Bets Are Off
Asbille’s character, Monica, made a brief appearance in the Season 4 premiere when the Dutton Ranch came under attack. Kayce, who was under attack himself at his office, told Monica to get to the Bunkhouse. But first Monica had to return to the main house to fetch Tate. As she raced through the cramped, darkened halls of the house, an attacker wearing a face mask popped up.
Monica managed to separate the man from his gun. But a fierce struggle ensued, and Monica, who put up a good fight, was nonetheless knocked out for a minute when the man bashed her head against the floor. He reclaimed the gun, turned and… dropped to the floor from a bullet fired by Tate, who was brandishing a shotgun, wide-eyed.
Monica and Tate made it to the Bunkhouse, where they watched as the ranch hands chased down the remaining attackers. The attack on the Dutton Ranch itself ended with no casualties for the Duttons or their ranch hands. But this was the first serious attack launched against the Duttons’ home base, and it clearly left everybody at the ranch shaken.
The Duttons are now up against an enemy that won’t hesitate to strike them where they live. And John Dutton (Kevin Costner) is determined to kill all of those behind the attacks. So as Season 4 begins, all bets are off.
A Healing Ceremony for Monica and Tate?
Monica and especially Tate have been through a lot these past three seasons, and Tate is wrestling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after being kidnapped by the militia. Now add watching his mother get attacked and having to shoot a man to the list of bad memories he’ll be struggling with.
Chief Thomas Rainwater actor Gil Birmingham has already said there’s a scene in Season 4 that’s designed to educate audiences on traditional Native American healing ceremonies. Now Asbille is also teasing a scene in which Monica “goes back to her people and her culture as a way of healing.” Will Tate be included in the healing ceremony? After all, the kid has a lot to heal from.
It’s all coming up in Season 4 of “Yellowstone.” The hit series airs Sunday nights, exclusively on the Paramount Network. Tune in to see what all the fuss is about.
