A new season of the hit Paramount Network series “Yellowstone” is growing near, but that isn’t the only reason fans are excited.

The show has been so successful that it has already spawned its first spinoff only three seasons into the series. “1883” is a prequel to “Yellowstone” set in the titular year as the United States was forming into what we know it as today.

The prequel will tell the story of how the Duttons made it to Montana to establish one of the country’s largest cattle ranches. One of the reasons for excitement is the show’s extraordinary cast. Country music power couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill will play the lead roles of James and Margaret Dutton. Western favorite Sam Elliott will star alongside the couple — something “Yellowstone” fans have been wanting for some time. Billy Bob Thornton will also have a guest-starring appearance on the western-themed show.

While “Yellowstone” fans are super excited to see what Taylor Sheridan has cooked up for “1883,” there is also some nervousness from the fan base. Some enthusiasts wonder if the prequel will be able to reach the very high bar set by “Yellowstone’s” immense popularity. In a recent Reddit thread, fans discuss their expectations for the upcoming show.

“Do yall think the 1883 Prequel will be better than the Main show?” the thread starter asks. Opinions from fans are a mixed bag.

“No idea if it will be better, but since Taylor Sheridan created it, I have no doubt it will be very good,” one Redditor writes.

‘Yellowstone’ Fans Question If ‘1883’ Will Measure Up

Thoughts on “1883” vary greatly among fans. Some are predicting a smash hit while others aren’t getting their hopes up.

“I hate to say this, but spin-offs rarely achieve the same devotion as the original because they are not derived from the same source material,” another “Yellowstone” fan says. “It’s like making a copy of a copy. Every iteration draws further from the original.”

While the addition of McGraw and Hill is exciting to some fans, others wonder how it will work out. “They have one real actor and two singers so I doubt it,” another fan says.

While Tim and Faith may be singers, this definitely isn’t their first rodeo in the acting world.

“1883” is currently in the filming process as they’ve chosen Forth Worth, Texas as their location. The “Yellowstone” prequel will premiere later this year as we head into the holiday season. The current premiere date is set for December 19 — an early Christmas gift for “Yellowstone” fans.

“Yellowstone” will return for its fourth and latest season in the fall with a November 7 premiere date.

It’s time to get excited “Yellowstone” fans! We’re just over a month until our favorite show returns.
