In a recent interview, White details why Yellowstone is so perfect for binge-watching, alongside his palpable excitement for Season 4.

“It’s really worth the wait,” White promises to TV Insider. The in-depth interview with the man behind Yellowstone‘s Jimmy, actor Jefferson White, touches on everything from the intensity of Season 3, to what to expect in Season 4, and why to watch it all again before the latter hits.

In many ways, Jimmy has become the eyes of audiences coming into the show. As the young ranch hand discovers more about the brutality of the world’ he’s sworn into, viewers do alongside him.

“When Jimmy first took the brand, he had no idea what it entailed,” White begins. “Basically Rip showed up and his options were, take the brand or go to jail. So the last three seasons have been the process of Jimmy learning what that actually means and how deep those loyalties lie,” he adds.

Moreover, the brilliance of watching this all unfold through Jimmy’s eyes is a big part of what warrants binge-watching for White. “Especially in Season 3,” he says, “seeing Wade strung up to a tree and killed as a result of betraying the brand, I think Jimmy is just now learning what he signed up for, and there’s a lot of apprehension and a lot of fear regarding that. He signed a contract not really knowing what he was signing away, and he’s just now confronting that for the first time.”

Why Binge? “It’s Incredibly Immersive”

When asked directly why he thinks the show is binge-worthy, Jefferson White has the perfect multi-tier answer.

“It’s incredibly immersive,” he starts off, before getting into the meat of his thoughts. “The world, the locations are such a character. It’s such a sort of escape of a show, and it’s kind of amazing in that way because it’s both an incredible escape into this cowboy fantasy but also sometimes painfully real and painfully contemporary.”

Furthering this point, White says Yellowstoneis “really unique. It kind of is simultaneously this mythic cowboy fable but also painfully real and, in some cases, painfully true. It gets you on all fronts. It’s incredible scenery, iconic actors — Kevin obviously — but also real human stories on a real micro level.”

If that’s not the most apt description of Yellowstone yet, I don’t know what is.

White’s Favorite Yellowstone Episode Yet is in Season 4

As for what to expect come Season 4, Jefferson White can barely contain his own excitement.

“It’s incredible,” he lauds. “I think Season 4 is the best season yet. We shot it all in Montana, and that really has a transformative effect. I really think it’s an incredible season.”

But what makes it different than the phenomenal 3 seasons prior? “Season 3 had a kind of slow burn pace to it,” White clarifies. “It was like a slow, simmering build to that finale, which obviously had such a climactic explosion leaving so many of the Duttons in danger.”

Season 4, however, “just starts out at this breakneck pace,” says White. And if that’s not enough to get you excited, Jimmy himself says “the first episode of Season 4 is my favorite episode of the show yet, so I just can’t wait for people to see it.”

We’re right there with you, Jimmy. In the meantime, you can binge all three seasons of Yellowstone on Paramount Network or NBC’s Peacock streaming service.
