Yellowstone’s Ryan Bingham is covering Brandi Carlile’s anthem “The Story” on his latest Cantina Session, and it’ll surprise both of their fanbases.
To fans of Yellowstone, Ryan Bingham may be more familiar as ranch hand Walker. I.e. – the one Rip almost kills. Thankfully for Walker – and Bingham – he’s spared by Kayce Dutton, and makes a return for the explosive events of Season 3.
Playing a colorful ex-con has its perks, but so does being a singer/songwriter. The ladder is, in fact, how Bingham was cast on Yellowstone. Speaking to PopCulture.com, Bingham recalls the story:
“I originally met Taylor a few years back when he wrote and directed a film called Wind River. He contacted me about writing a song for the film[.] I never seemed to come up with anything for the movies at that time that fit, but we always kept in touch and remained friends. And when this show started up, he contacted me again about possibly writing some songs and using some of the songs that I already had. And after hanging out for a while, he learned that I had a history with rodeo and the cowboy thing. And so he said, ‘Heck, I got to write you into this show.’ And so that’s how that all started.”Ryan Bingham

In addition to writing songs for film, Bingham is also a big fan of covering his favorites. In a series he calls the “Cantina Sessions”, the star’s latest covers a recent rock-country fusion hit by rising megastar Brandi Carlile.
The nuances of his cover, however, are far from expected.
“Sending good vibes for all of us this Thursday,” Bingham posts to his Twitter. Within, he announces the cover’s arrival to his Youtube channel, as well. You can watch his interpretation of via his video “The Story” below the tweet.
