Why ‘1883’ Star Sam Elliott Said There’s a ‘Whole Different Energy’ When He Works with Wife Katharine Ross

Sam Elliott loves acting alongside his wife, Katharine Ross. Elliott, who will appear in the “Yellowstone” prequel “1883”, talked about it.

What, for Elliott, makes working a little bit better for him when she’s around? He shared his thoughts in a 2016 interview with the Los Angeles Times. At the time, Elliott and Ross had just finished working in a film together called “The Ranch”.

“Katharine plays [my character’s] ex-wife,” the “1883” star told Times reporter Susan King. “Something else that was great about this was seeing Katharine work again.

“I think we just like making movies and having that creative experience together is the best,” Elliott said. “It’s just fun. It’s a whole different kind of energy to go home with some you’re working with rather than go home to somebody who isn’t working. (And) It’s a totally positive experience.”

‘1883’ Will Give Sam Elliott New Role As Shea Brennan

Classic movie fans among Outsiders will remember Ross from her role in “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”. That movie starred Robert Redford and Paul Newman, but Ross had a featured role as Etta Place. She was the love interest of Redford’s character, “the Sundance Kid,” in the 1969 movie. Elliott had a bit role as a card player in the movie. They were married in 1984.

But “Yellowstone” fans can get excited about having Elliott play Shea Brennan on “1883” when the first season appears on Paramount+.

Brennan helps lead James and Margeret Dutton, who’ll be played by country music super-couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, through the Great Plains.

Actor Remembered The Worst Job He’d Ever Had In His Life

While it’s good to think of Sam Elliott solely as an actor, the “1883” star actually had different jobs before charting a new course.

It was during a 2019 interview with “Ain’t It Cool News” that talked about the worst job in his life. He recalled his time working in a plywood mill. But the plywood wasn’t the problem.

“There were a couple of nights where a friend and I were cleaning out this pit,” Elliott said. “It was full of lard and it had all these chips in it. I remember my feet getting cooked in this water.”

Elliott and his co-worker were encountering things they had no clue are in the pit.

“I remember the skin peeled off of both of my feet… I was in pain for a long time,” Elliott said. He also was running track at the same time. So he needed his feet for athletics, too.

“I’m no stranger to manual labor and I’m no stranger to hard work,” the “1883” star said. “I’ve had a lot of difficult jobs along the way but it made me the man I am today.”
