Could the actor who plays Tate Dutton on Yellowstone star in the upcoming spin-off series?

12-year old Brecken Merrill, the actor who plays Tate on the show, recently shared the trailer for Y:1883 on his Instagram. Correction: his mom, who manages his account, shared the trailer. Along with the video, she wrote, “Every story has its beginning. Y: 1883 is coming to @paramountplus in 2021.”

And now we’re all wondering, will Brecken act in Yellowstone: 1883?

Will Brecken Merrill Make An Appearance in the ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff?

For any Yellowstone fans who have not yet seen the trailer for Y:1883, you gotta catch up! Paramount released the trailer a few days ago and aired it during the Super Bowl last night. At only 10-seconds, the trailer may be short but it holds all the hype fans need to start speculating about the new series including who the cast will be.

So, will little Tate make an appearance on the show? The short answer is, we don’t know. The disappointing answer is, probably not. Because the show takes place in 1883 and follows the Dutton ancestors, it wouldn’t really make sense for any of the current actors to star in the show.

According to the show description, the series follows the Dutton family “as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America.” The description says that the show is “a stark retelling of Western expansion and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land — Montana.”

Nevertheless, fans are confident that the show will be well-cast. After watching the trailer, one fan shared her thoughts on Twitter. In response to the trailer she wrote, “Anxious to hear the cast announcements. I believe so much of the reason Yellowstone works so well is the cast. Can that magic be captured a 2nd time?”

We sure hope so!
