The youngest member of the incredible Yellowstone cast took to social media on Thursday to give a shoutout to our nation’s military members.

Today is Veterans Day, after all. And Yellowstone star Brecken Merrill is one of the latest celebrities to honor America’s heroes on social media.

Now, we assume that all of you Outsiders are as big of Yellowstone fans as we are. If so, then you know and love little Brecken Merrill from the show too. He plays the ever curious and defiant Tate Dutton in the Paramount Network television show. Tate is the only son of Casey and Monic Dutton. And as a result, he is a grandson of the one and only John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner).

But it turns out that Brecken Merrill is blessed with some pretty awesome grandparents — both on the show and off it. On the show, Costner’s John Dutton is the patriarch of the Dutton family and the owner of Yellowstone Ranch. That makes him the owner of the largest contiguous ranch in the entire country.

In real life, however, Merrill revealed on Veteran’s Day that he comes from a long line of military members, including both sets of his grandparents and a great-great-grandfather. The young Yellowstone star posted photos of his beloved grandparents and wrote a touching tribute to veterans everywhere.

“Happy Veterans Day to all you service men and women!” Merrill wrote on Instagram. ” Thank you for your service. Today I’m recognizing my great great grandfather Charles ‘Doc’ Dambacher (WWI-not pictured) my Papa Dambacher (WWII) my Grandpa Wayne (Vietnam) and my Nana and Papa Bob (Desert Storm). My Nana and Papa Bob have serviced in both the Army and the Navy.”

‘Yellowstone’ Fans Thank Brecken Merrill for his Family’s Military Service

It kind of makes sense now just why exactly little Brecken Merrill made the perfect fit for a cowboy-in-training on Yellowstone. His real-life family is just as badass as his family on the hit show.

Meanwhile, Yellowstone fans were quick to thank the young actor for his family’s service to our country.

“Well thank you to your family for your service! You come from a long line of heros!” one person replied.

“Thank them all for their service!!!” another fan said. “You come from a great family of protectors!! God bless you and them!”

“How wonderful that you have such a wonderful history with the military!” commented a third fan. “And such an amazing family tree. Thank you so much for your family service! And thank you so much for being the amazing young man that you are.”

The newest episode of Yellowstone will air on Sunday, November 14, at 8 p.m. ET on Paramount Network.
