“Yellowstone” has released a new teaser, and it offers new sneak peeks into Season 4 of the hit Paramount Network series.
In it, we see John Dutton (Kevin Costner), bloodied and exhausted, collapsing on the roadside. We see police vehicles screeching down a street. We see a shaking hand holding a cigarette. Then we catch a glimpse of Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith) standing on the Dutton Ranch, dazed, his face bloodied, his shirt untucked. We also see Mia (Eden Brolin) sobbing over Jimmy’s (Jefferson White) unconscious form.
“What’s happening?” Monica (Kelsey Asbille) asks.
“I don’t know,” Lloyd answers.
Then we hear an unidentified voice saying ominously, “We’re at war, you and me.” The action speeds up, cutting from a shot of a police cruiser, to a SWAT team kicking a door down, to Rip (Cole Hauser) reaching in a window and attacking someone. There’s Chief Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and Mo (Mo Brings Plenty) walking down a dirt road. There’s Roarke Morris (Josh Holloway) running towards the woods, spinning to check over his shoulder for pursuers. And there’s Jamie (Wes Bentley) training a gun on someone. We hear a gunshot.
Does ‘Yellowstone’ Teaser Hint at New Deaths in Season 4?
Based on the brief clip from the teaser, things are not looking good for Roarke. He’s the hedge fund bro who tried to take a parcel of Dutton’s land in Season 3. Could Season 4 bring a change in fortunes for the overconfident Market Equities hotshot?
We already know from Holloway’s comments in an interview with Esquire that Roarke is in for some Dutton-style vengeance in Season 4. Holloway didn’t say what exact fate awaits Roarke, but he hinted that the “Yellowstone” villain will face some comeuppance next season.
“I will tell you Roarke is going to get his,” Holloway said. “He should have been more concerned with conservation. We’ll see what happens to him. But Beth is awesome. What a great character. I wish I could tell you, but I can’t tell you who or what did that situation, but you will find out. And like I said, yeah… Roarke’s going to get his. No worries.”
Some fans are convinced that Roarke gets hung in Season 4, which is a tad grisly even by the Duttons’ standards, considering he was mostly a cheerful annoyance in Season 3. But did he have a hand in the season-finale attacks on the Duttons? That could conceivably change the calculus.
What About Jimmy? Or Lloyd?
Roarke is definitely at risk of getting killed off in Season 4. But what about Jimmy? Things are looking similarly bleak for the fan-favorite ranch hand, who, at the end of Season 3, had just gotten back on a horse to train for the rodeo, only to be tossed off and knocked unconscious.
Even if Jimmy survives, he will have to face the consequences of breaking his promise to Dutton, who paid his medical bills after his last rodeo accident in exchange for a promise never to rodeo again. Now Jimmy, if he makes it, could face consequences ranging from dismissal to “the train station” – where problematic ranch hands are dispatched – from Rip and Dutton.
And what happens to Lloyd? In previous trailers, we’ve seen Lloyd holding a gun and telling Monica to get inside. We’ve also seen Lloyd getting decked by someone – fans insist it’s Rip – on the ranch. Is Lloyd’s disheveled appearance in this teaser thanks to enemies from without or a fight from within the ranch? Does Lloyd survive what looks to be an attack on the ranch itself?
There’s only one way to find out who lives and who dies. Catch the Season 4 premiere Sunday, Nov. 7 on the Paramount Network.
