Romance, a shootout, arrests, and one upset Dutton family member all were part of Sunday night’s latest Yellowstone episode.

Let’s take a look at what the Season 4, Episode 8 titled No Kindness for the Coward delivered to viewers. We get some help in reviewing this episode from TV Insider.

This week’s episode, though, starts out with a flashback to John Dutton’s great-grandfather James Dutton, played by Tim McGraw, and great-grandmother Margaret, played by Faith Hill. It comes from the Yellowstone prequel 1883.

John Dutton, as a young boy, says that James is chasing down “horse-stealing cowards.” When James makes an example of them, he gets shot and staggers into the family’s cabin. Margaret reacts and leaves us with a suggestion that this might be how James dies.

‘Yellowstone’ Episode Shows Jamie Dutton Still Ticked Over Endorsement

On Yellowstone, what about a loss for the present-day Duttons? Jamie Dutton, played by Wes Bentley, is still ticked over John Dutton, played by Kevin Costner, getting the governor’s endorsement to run for that seats.

Jamie’s biological father Garrett, played by Will Patton, encourages him, however, suggesting Jamie set up a meeting with John to discuss what’s off-limits.

John takes Rip, played by Cole Hauser, to meet with Sheriff Haskell, played by Hugh Dillon. He knows who tried to kill him, he says, and Rip would rather he just let him handle it instead. But, as John explains, he’d like to kill him himself but he’s sitting in prison. He just wants to figure out how to make his life shorter.

But things get sticky and deadly. John and Rip get to the diner for the meeting, but no one’s eating inside. John and Rip eventually get inside. They and Haskell kill the robbers. Haskell is shot in the chest in the process. He has John call his daughter, but soon after she picks up, he dies.
