In Sunday’s episode of Yellowstone, we saw Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) appear to set protester Summer Higgins (Piper Perabo) up for a fall and align with CEO Caroline Warner (Jacki Weaver) instead. But is that really the plot Beth has in mind?

Spoiler alert: If you haven’t watched the episode yet and want to find out for yourself what happens, read no further.

In a new behind-the-scenes featurette, Weaver forecasts a major explosion between Caroline and Beth in the near future. And that’s not because Beth’s machinations will ultimately work out in Caroline’s favor.

“It looks like Caroline and Beth are going to make a team, but I think there’s fireworks on the horizon,” Weaver predicted.

In Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan Has a Surprise Waiting Around Every Corner

Season 4 of Yellowstone has been full of surprises, courtesy of series co-creator Taylor Sheridan. And Beth’s decision to work for Caroline is just one of them. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) doesn’t like his daughter working for the hedge fund Market Equities, but he accepts it with some grumbles.

But do Beth’s sympathies really lie with Summer and the environmental protesters, after all? Beth catches the group protesting in town one day and beckons Summer over. There’s a much bigger development you could be protesting, she tells Summer. But this one will take some risk. Some sacrifice.

Caroline is less than thrilled to find the protesters demonstrating against her beloved airport on Market Equities’ property the next day. Then Beth, who waltzes into the meeting late, appears to be playing both sides as she goads Caroline into a risky plan: send the press away – it is private property, after all – and then clear the protesters by night, violently if necessary, with no one watching.

Unwisely, Market Equities sends Beth to tell the press to leave the property. But Beth offers a hot tip to one of the journalists. Don’t go too far, she hints. I’ll call you when things are about to get interesting.

Whose side is Beth on, really? The local press catches the protester-clearing operation in all its violent glory. But they appear to have been fed some info on Summer, whose rap sheet is piling up charges that may be difficult to clear. As they report on the accusations against her, Caroline is mollified. The story appears to be going their way. Now all they need, she says, is a big news day in New York so this story doesn’t get picked up.

Cue Beth, who makes a pivotal phone call as that Yellowstone episode draws to a close.

Will Caroline Wise Up to Beth’s Game?

Caroline is overconfident in her ability to manipulate people with money, but she’s no fool, either. Soon enough she’s sure to figure out what Beth is up to and let her have it.

Both women are ruthless and willing to play dirty. Will both survive the inevitable clash of wills? How long can Beth string Caroline along?

There are only a few episodes left in Season 4. Tune in to the Paramount Network Sundays at 8 p.m. ET to find out.
