Prior to the intense fourth season premiere Yellowstone, Kelsey Asbille shared more details about the unsettling and crazy decision that the show made for the season’s opener.

During her interview with TV Insider, the Yellowstone star opened up about how her character Monica was left in the dark after that call with Kayce in the third season finale. “It’s the worst feeling because you can’t do anything but just listen on the other side,” Asbille revealed. She also said that Monica doesn’t know who or what she’s fighting. “But [her son] Tate right now is her number one priority.”

Asbille also revealed that the Yellowstone crew shot the premiere opening differently than the rest of the show to echo the audience’s and Monica’s confusion. “It’s a really unsettling opening and then dealing with the aftermath of that kind of attack has huge consequences for everyone.”

Although the Season 4 trailer shows Monica fighting for her life, Asbille doesn’t seem to care much. She added, “She sees for the first time the Dutton come out in Tate and that’s really terrifying.”

While chatting with Taste of Country recently, Asbille offered one hint about her relationship with the Duttons. “Beware of the company you keep, I guess. The Duttons are starting to rub off on her. But it’s good. In some ways, she’s always felt like an outsider and been very wary of the family, and I think especially when she sees how it takes hold of her son … oh, she’s willing to fight, you know.”

Kelsey Asbille Opens up About Her ‘Yellowstone’ Character

During a 2018 interview with W Magazine, Kelsey Asbille shared more details about her Yellowstone character, Monica. “She’s an extraordinary woman in extraordinary circumstances,” Asbille explained. “She’s a wife, a mother, a teacher. And at the heart of it, the story is really about a strong woman trying to keep her family together.”

The Yellowstone cast opportunity is also giving Asbille an opportunity to explore the native culture. “As a person of mixed race, as you get older it matters more to you who you are and where you come from. So to be able to get in touch with that side of my heritage has been amazing. I’d like to do that with all aspects of my heritage in the future.”

While speaking about her Yellowstone castmates, she said working with people like Kevin Costner and Kelly Reilly is like taking a master class. “It was all Taylor Sheridan. I owe him everything. Well, him and my mom. Make sure you get that last part on the record!”

Yellowstone originally premiered on June 20, 2018. The show now has 4 seasons and nearly 30 episodes. Starring alongside Costner, Asbille, and Reilly are Luke Grimes, Wes Bentley, and Cole Hauser.
