New details about the new Yellowstone prequel, 1883, are coming out. A new Deadline interview with 101 Studios CEO David Glasser goes in-depth about what we should expect from the new series. 101 Studios owns all things Yellowstone.

1883 stars Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Sam Elliott. Additionally, Taylor Sheridan is the show creator and writer responsible for Yellowstone and its spinoffs. According to Glasser, he created pure “magic” with 1883.

“[Taylor] created this show about this amazing family, and now it just seemed natural and organic to start with the Duttons as they made their journey across America,” Glasser said. McGraw and Hill play James and Margaret Dutton, who are heading west up to Montana to start a new life.

“What’s beautiful about the story is, it’s a time we’ve forgotten, what a family would do to find a place to settle, and the risks and trials and tribulations of what people went through. These are real struggles, about people dying along the way, in search of a better future for their families,” he explained. Sheridan has never been afraid to shy away from the grittier truths that other westerns may tend to romanticize. 1883 should be no different.

“The core of the story is always family, and you see the innocent perspective of the daughter Elsa, and through Faith’s eyes, and through the eyes of the father, played by Tim, and this incredible character Shea, played by Sam Elliott. He’s seen it all and might be on his last journey. There is something that happens that explains each character’s reason for leaving to build a new life. The world Taylor has created is magic,” he continued.

Faith Hill and Tim McGraw Feel Thrilled to Star in ‘1883’

Both Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are thrilled to be a part of the new Yellowstone prequel. Earlier this month, the two took to social media to announce their involvement with the series. Recently, McGraw posted a photo of what looks like James Dutton’s journal along with a pair of pants blackened and beaten from quickdraw practice.

“This is truly a dream job. Taylor has found a way of storytelling that brilliantly creates these epic dramas and family sagas with so much depth and creativity,” McGraw told Deadline earlier this month. Now, with the show in production, McGraw and his wife get to live out that dream.

Fans are also thrilled that Sam Elliot is a part of the project. The actor, who has an affinity for westerns, should make a perfect addition to the series. Elliott is known for his work on A Star is Born, Tombstone, and The Hero.

People excited for the new series as well as season 4 of Yellowstone don’t have too long to wait. Yellowstone comes back on November 7th and 1883 comes out on December 19th.
