Yellowstone fans are getting restless.
In the lead-up to the Season 4 finale, some fans are pushing for series co-creator Taylor Sheridan to kill off a main character. Of course, the season finale was written and filmed many months ago, so whatever happens next is a preordained conclusion, but fans are still hoping for more curveballs than they’ve seen in Season 4 so far.
In a new Reddit thread, Yellowstone fans weighed in on which major characters they would and would not like to see bite the dust in the season finale, and when is the best time to kill off a major character.
Yellowstone Fans Debate When to Kill Off a Character
One fan kicked the thread off by pointing out that compared to previous seasons, Season 4 has been “pretty slow.” That’s a pretty high bar, and not every season can be an adrenaline-laced thrill ride without straining credulity, but Yellowstone fans are a demanding lot.
“The writers need to shake things up,” the fan wrote. “Kill off a main character, let’s make things interesting.”
Yellowstone arguably came close to killing off a main character in the last episode when John Dutton (Kevin Costner) told Beth (Kelly Reilly) to find a new home. The Dutton Ranch is all that she’s been fighting for, and her fiancée Rip (Cole Hauser) is tethered to it. Without the ranch, Beth will have no reason to keep going and possibly no fiancée either. That was a pretty shocking development in and of itself.
Still, Yellowstone fans want more gut-punches and eye-openers. They suggested that Sheridan should have killed a character after the Season 3 finale, a major cliffhanger that saw multiple main characters survive against improbable odds.
“I agree that they should’ve killed someone in season 3 finale, but to make up for this season, something big needs to happen!” one fan posted.
“I think they should save killing a main character for the end of the show all together,” another fan argued. “Not a season finale.”
Which Character Should Go? The Votes Are In
“I vote Monica,” one fan offered. “But they really need Jamie out of the way. His baby momma can go too. I can’t stand her.”
“Monica adds nothing to the show and never has. Jamie at least has a character arc,” another fan replied.
“Please kill off Beth,” begged another, presumably a Jamie fan.
“I’d be pissed if they get rid of Jamie,” yet another fan posted. “The way they treat him, he needs to redeem himself.”
Jamie has one chance left at redemption this season, and it’s not looking too likely that he’ll grow a spine and stand up to his biological father over the latter’s murderous attacks. Then again, he’s also always struggled to stand up to John Dutton, the overbearing adoptive father who raised him.
Will all of the Yellowstone protagonists survive to see Season 5? The Season 4 finale is just two days away. Tune in to the Paramount Network Sunday at 8 p.m. ET to find out.
