John Dutton has no shortage of powerful enemies, and the ones that survive into Yellowstone Season 4 have done so for a reason.

Start placing your bets, Outsiders. Who is truly responsible for the hits orchestrated at the end of Season 3? Every adversary on this list is a prime suspect; each with their own considerable power and motive. But who among them stands the strongest chance of bringing down an entire American empire?

Let’s take a look.

4. Thomas Rainwater

Cutting straight to the chase, the only reason Thomas Rainwater is at the bottom of this list instead of #1 is that we’re expecting to see an alliance form between the Dutton’s Yellowstone Ranch and Broken Rock Reservation.

By Season 3’s explosive end, this age-old rivalry feels like it needs to be buried in the past. In every way, patriarchs Thomas and John are living in that past. To survive the future, they’ll need to put their considerable powers together to stop what’s coming.

3. Angela Blue Thunder: John’s Devin in Disguise

Let’s be clear, Angela Blue Thunder is no more a devil than John Dutton is himself. Their similarities are what makes her particularly dangerous to him, however. Angela isn’t afraid to double-cross or play dirty, and the power she wields as a lawyer who’s served both sides of the Yellowstone Ranch divide makes her especially dangerous.

Few characters hold the dirt Angela has on both sides, and also have access to both. By the way Season 3 unfolded, we’re expecting her to bring some true wrath to the enemies of her people – if she hasn’t already with a potential role in those finale assassination attempts.

2. Market Equities: ‘Yellowstone’ Public Enemy #1

Right off the bat, Market Equities’ top brass is the most likely candidate for putting out the hit on Beth Dutton at Season 3’s end. Would Willa Hayes go all “Yemen” on John and Kayce, as well? Possibly, if it means taking down their adversaries all in one fell swoop. John Dutton is the endgame, after all, for any looking to take Yellowstone Ranch’s land. And this is 100% ME’s intention.

But what makes Market Equities terribly dangerous is their wealth. Endless finances, in addition to Hayes’ own admitting to playing murder dirty in the past means we’re about to find out how far these bigwigs will go in Yellowstone Season 4. If anyone has the true means to take down John’s empire, it’s ME.

1. Garrett Randall: The Puppet Master

In many ways, Garrett Randall is the polar opposite to ME as far as a threat is concerned. While the Dutton’s corporate enemy is entirely on the outside looking in, Randall has a deadly secret weapon at the heart of it all: Jamie Dutton.

Twisting his biological son into a patricidal killer is painted on the wall in blood-red letters. ME may have the means and the will to take down the Dutton Empire, but John has dealt with this noise his entire life.

He’s never met anything like what’s coming his way in his own son, now under the influence of his twisted ancestry.

Yellowstone’s gripping Season 4 trailer sets up the Garrett & Jamie dynamic in a big way. And we’re betting if anything – or anyone – holds the keys to undoing John Dutton, it’s these two.

We’ll find out come November 7 on Paramount+.
