‘Yellowstone’ Star Cole Hauser Calls It an ‘Honor’ to Work With Morgan Freeman in Upcoming Movie

News broke a few days ago that “Yellowstone” star Cole Hauser just signed on for a new film alongside Hollywood icon Morgan Freeman.

“Yellowstone” fans may know Hauser best as cowboy Rip Wheeler, the Dutton family’s loyal go-to man. But even before he started working on the Western, Hauser made quite a name for himself in Hollywood starring in films like “Good Will Hunting,” “Dazed and Confused,” and “2 Fast 2 Furious.”

Now, Hauser gets to work with Freeman on a new action-thriller called “Muti,” from writer-director George Gallo. In the film, the “Yellowstone” star will play Detective Boyd, a man attempting to process the death of his daughter. When he gets called into work on a serial killer case, Boyd teams up with Freeman’s Professor Mackles, an anthropologist. Together, the two track the murderer, who kills by way of a cutthroat tribal ritual called Muti.

Sounds both eerie and thrilling. But no doubt Hauser and Freeman will absolutely crush their roles, especially when they work off one another.

Earlier today, the “Yellowstone” star even gave a shoutout to his new co-star on Instagram. Hauser posted a pic of the casting announcement and captioned it, “An honor to work with you my friend! #muti.”

It would be an honor for any Hollywood actor or actress to work with such a legend. But the “Yellowstone” star was kind to shout Freeman out and draw attention to his latest film.

Besides Freeman, Collider reports that Hauser will star with Peter Stormare, Vernon Davis, and newcomer Murielle Hilaire. Hilaire will star as the female lead opposite Hauser, working as his partner.

While George Gallo directs, Deadline reports that Joe Lemmon, Andrea Iervolino, Monika Bacardi, and Danielle Maloni will produce the film. Iervolino even spoke with the outlet about the plans for the film.

“A high level of intelligence and sophistication underpins the tension and intensity of ‘Muti,’” Iervolino said. “Having Morgan and Cole playing off one another keeps the dial up in unrelenting fashion throughout the twisting ride. We’re happy to make this a unique multinational collaboration, shooting in Mississippi and Italy.”

Filming for the movie hasn’t started up yet. But The Exchange will introduce international buyers to the indie film at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival, according to Deadline.

In the meantime, fans can get their Cole Hauser-fix during the new season of “Yellowstone,” set to premiere on Nov. 7. The show announced the Season 4 premiere date yesterday, along with an epic new teaser trailer. While we didn’t get to see Hauser’s Rip Wheeler in the trailer, viewers did catch a glimpse of a (dying?) John Dutton.
