‘Yellowstone’ Star Finn Little Looks Back on Emotional Scene With Cole Hauser

Now that “Yellowstone” Season 4 has officially wrapped up, some cast members are taking the time to look back at the season.

Newcomer Finn Little has posted flashback photos from the set all season long. But now, he can also share behind-the-scenes snapshots that relate to different moments from the recent episodes. Take the one he posted earlier today on Instagram.

In the photo, we see gorgeous Montana mountains in the background. In the foreground, Little talks with Cole Hauser, who plays Rip Wheeler on the show. This is a moment from “Yellowstone” Season 4 Episode 2, when Carter is trying to fit in with the Dutton family.

“Way back when…” Little captioned the post.

This was one of the more emotional scenes early on in the “Yellowstone” season. Carter came to Beth because he had nowhere else to go. Similar to how Rip fled to the ranch after he killed his father. Beth takes Carter in, but she has a hard time convincing Rip to let him stay with them.

Rip decides to take Carter out to the city and drop him off there. On the way, the two get into an argument, and Rip kicks Carter out of the car. But his conscience gets the better of him, causing Rip to turn around and give the kid one more chance.

Carter finally asks Rip if he can have a job on the ranch, and Rip says yes. This kicks off a slow but beautiful relationship between the two that grows and grows all season. By the end of “Yellowstone” Season 4, Rip is cheering Carter on as he kicks everyone’s ass at poker in the bunkhouse.

‘Yellowstone’ Star Kelly Reilly Reacts to Heartbreaking Scene Between Beth and Carter

After the “Yellowstone” Season 4 finale, star Kelly Reilly took to Instagram to share a sweet photo of her and co-star Cole Hauser. But in the comments on the photo, one fan pointed out a moment from the finale that didn’t sit well with them.

The commenter told Reilly that Beth has to be nicer to Carter after she made him cry during the episode. Carter called her “Mama,” and Beth easily replied with “Baby.” But then she stopped and told him he can’t call her that anymore because she’s not his mother.

“You lost your mother, kid. You don’t get another. I lost mine. Same goes for me. And I’m nobody’s mother. Ever. Got it?” Beth told Carter on “Yellowstone.” He started crying immediately.

When the fan pointed out the heartbreaking scene, Reilly took the time to thoughtfully reply. You can check out her full response below, which has since been deleted from Instagram since the original comment was deleted.

Kelly Reilly’s Instagram Reply

“I understand. It was supposed to be brutal and heartbreaking. I don’t usually comment but want to say this .. Beth was about to do something that will ruin her life. She is about to go into a prison and kill the man that she thinks attacked her family. She knows there is a chance she will not come back . She can’t tell this kid she is his mother and then leave him abandoned again.

“Beth is honest. It’s tough sometimes, really tough but that’s how she was raised .. but it’s always truthful. When I read it I had the same feeling for them both. But honestly, not sure Beth in that moment was ready to be that for anyone .. she was out for vengeance and could see nothing else. (There is a moment, where I hope you see the fight in her after he calls her that) I think the heart wants it but she has to protect that kid from herself…not sure that will make sense. But let’s see where the writer will take them…I have hope x”
