On Tuesday, Yellowstone star Josh Lucas paid tribute to late Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts where he called the iconic British rockers the “greatest band of all time.”
Like countless others on social media yesterday, Lucas joined in the chorus of fans that paid their respects to Watts. A representative of the longtime Rolling Stones drummer confirmed the sad news of his death yesterday. Recently, Watts stepped away from the band’s scheduled “No Filter” Tour of the U.S. The band announced that he had surgery and would be staying in England to recover. A few weeks later, Watts passed away at the age of 80.
For many, Charlie Watts was an integral part of their favorite band. The Rolling Stones have been a staple of fans’ lives since the 1960s, and have been entertaining all who listened for six decades. Yellowstone actor Josh Lucas is among those that consider the Stones the pinnacle of music.
He posted a chart displaying each member of the band over the years and their musical contributions to the group. Only lead singer Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards have been in the band longer. Watts has been at the heart of The Rolling Stones’ music since 1963, and Lucas pointed out just how “astounding” the band is as referenced by the chart.
“Zoom in & Take a moment with this chart. It’s so astounding it wouldn’t even fit on this screen. The greatest band of all time. Always absolutely inspiring. RIP #charliewatts Long Live @therollingstones @officialkeef @mickjagger,” the Yellowstone star wrote on Instagram.
‘Yellowstone’ Star Kept Separate From Kevin Costner On Set
Actor Josh Lucas took some time out of his day yesterday to pay tribute to Charlie Watts. But he’s most recently been filming the newest season of Yellowstone, which is set to debut in November.
Lucas plays the role of a younger John Dutton on the hit show. His character helps dig deeper into Kevin Costner’s popular role and how his earlier life shaped the man that came to be. Fans love the flashback scenes that add even further depth to John Dutton, and Lucas loved the idea of his character as well.
During a recent interview, Lucas spoke about his Yellowstone character. He shared that he’s “very, very honored” to portray the younger Dutton. Yet he also admitted playing a younger version of an already popular and well-established character can be difficult. After all, John Dutton isn’t played by just any actor. He’s played by legendary actor Kevin Costner, which adds to the pressure of Lucas’ role.
“Anytime you’re playing a personality that’s iconic and real, it’s harder to do it when the person is an actor,” Lucas said.
However, Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan has kept the two famous actors separated while on-set. The decision has helped relieve some of the pressure off of Lucas’ shoulders while acting.
“Luckily, he’s not there when I’m shooting. We’re almost kept separate on purpose,” Lucas explained.
