Sure, there’s a rough and violent nature to “Yellowstone,” but star Kelsey Asbille said the set environment is safe.
In fact, Asbille told CBR that the show has a creative, fun, and loving environment that helps do the difficult, on-screen work.
“It is really rough and violent,” Asbille said. “But I think – our crew I’ve been with since we shot (2017 film) “Wind River,” actually. So they feel – really, they’re family.”
Asbille plays Monica, who is a beacon of strength amid the near-relentlessness of hardship. She’s all about trying to be a good mother in a world of craziness. Based on the Season 3 cliffhanger, fans will have to watch how Monica bounces back from the pain of an unsafe home. She’ll also have to help her son deal with any lingering effects of trauma.
With Monica and Kayce keeping Tate at home on the ranch, maybe things will settle down. But then again, it is “Yellowstone.” Last season, Monica helped the reservation catch a serial rapist/killer.
Season 4 is likely to be just as adventurous.
The sting was an important moment for Monica Dutton. Her desire to control the narrative played big in the show, and Asbille said she was thrilled to be a part of it.
Obviously, there was more to the sting that meets the eye with Monica.
“It also kind of confronts the violence and can also honor the strength in Native Culture as well,” Asbille said.
And with the show’s Native American influences, Asbille hopes fans will see new perspectives. She’s proud of the show’s tough subjects and desires to break out of the mold of the western front while addressing modern struggles. Maybe Monica will turn more to that heritage and healing to cope in future episodes this season.
Asbille’s Desire To Work With ‘Yellowstone’ Cast, Crew
Sure, Asbille’s worked with some great co-stars on the show. Luke Grimes, Brecken Merrill, and Kelly Reilly, to name a few.
The actress told CBR she’d love to expand her horizons and work with more Duttons in future episodes. Maybe more time with Beth (Reilly) will become a plotline.
She’s also interested in Jacki Weaver and Will Patton, but it’s all about how the characters will connect over time.
Asbille’s open to all sorts of possibilities. She’s been with director Taylor Sheridan for five seasons and is open to “following him anywhere” for spin-offs or whatever. She’s called him an exceptional mentor.
The Yellowstone star then discusses how she feels about the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan. “Honestly, I work with Taylor now for over five years, and he’s someone who is a really special mentor to me. And yeah, I’ll follow him anywhere.”
In talking to The Daily Caller before the season, she joked that she’d even be up for a potential Monica spin-off with Kayce and Monica “in space.”
