As one of Hollywood’s top names he is currently starring in one of the most-watched shows on Television in Yellowstone. He also just got the full go from the ABC Network on his latest project called “National Parks.” As if that weren’t enough, he also founded his own band in 2007 called “Kevin Costner and Modern West.”

Kevin Costner Talks Early Days in Hollywood

It is safe to say it’s good to be Kevin Costner these days. But, in a 2014 interview, the actor, lead singer and guitar player says that wasn’t always the case.

In the interview, he recalls how the going was rough when he first started and reveals some shocking events that led him to where he is today. He says he was homeless for a span when he first got going in Hollywood.

“When I decided that I was going to be an actor, no one gave me a chance,” he recalls. “I certainly didn’t know how it worked. I used to drive my truck in every day to La Brea and Sunset, and park by a phone booth and just go to sleep in my truck because I didn’t know what else to do.”

It is a situation that a number of young actors may find themselves in as they try to navigate the streets of fame and fortune. Hollywood can be a tough place for someone simply trying to make a name for themselves, even Kevin Costner.

“I knew I needed to come into Hollywood every day — I just didn’t know where to go,” he says. “I would curl up into a fetal position and sleep, just trying to dream about how to get started. And I stayed next to the phone booth because we didn’t have cell phones back then. I didn’t really know what I was doing, I just knew what I wanted to do.”

Despite his early struggles, Costner is now one of the biggest names in Hollywood and it’s all thanks to a little persistence and hard work.

His hit show, Yellowstone, is set to return to television this summer.
