“Yellowstone” star Luke Grimes teased a bit about what’s to come this season regarding John Dutton and protestor Summer Higgins.

We met Summer last week after she organized a protest against industrialized farming. Kayce, Grimes’ character, ended up breaking up the protest and arresting Summer. So, those two didn’t exactly get off to a great start.

But John had an interesting conversation with her before the police arrested her. It seemed to strike him as much as it affected her, and so he ended up bailing her out of jail and taking her to the ranch. He wants her to see his lifestyle and understand why they’re on opposite sides of this protest.

Some “Yellowstone” viewers sense a potential romantic storyline between the two. Anything’s possible, but Grimes was more interested in the political aspect of the new storyline.

In a recent interview with TV Insider, “Yellowstone” star Luke Grimes opened up about how much he “loves” this new storyline between John and Summer.

“I really loved reading those scenes and that kind of story arc, because you have this history versus modernity,” Grimes explained. “You have these political views, and I think political views between two people who live very, very different lives and understand things very differently.”

Despite coming from places worlds apart, John and Summer ended up connecting about a few things. While driving back to the ranch, the two ended up sharing the same opinion about the Earth rejecting humanity at some point in time.

“Obviously, there’s a lot of that that happens in our country,” Grimes continued. “And it’s easy for people with two completely different lifestyles that have no idea what it takes for the other person to thrive in their own lifestyle, just to think that everything should be done the way they do it. And they can’t see eye to eye.”

Just look at Dan Jenkins from the first two seasons of “Yellowstone.” He always tried to take and take from John, but he never tried to understand why John fought so hard to preserve his family’s legacy. Likewise, it was difficult for John to understand why Dan needed the land so badly, not knowing how greed motivated people in Dan’s circles all his life.

“The great thing about this show is that it never kind of gives you an answer,” Grimes concludes. “It brings up political questions. It doesn’t give you any political answers. And that’s never been more apparent I think than these scenes between John and Summer. It’s pretty interesting watching those two express their ideas to each other.”

We can’t wait to see the verbal sparring between those two. And when Beth enters the picture? Someone’s not walking away from that conversation unscathed. Grimes did reveal, however, that we won’t be seeing another bout between Summer and Kayce.

“No, I think they had their interaction already,” Grimes said with a laugh.
