“We have to unite and become one for all… It is a great day to be Indian.” So says the phenomenal Yellowstone presence that is Mo Brings Plenty on the anniversary of The Battle of the Little Bighorn.

“One hundred and forty-five years ago our ancestors gave their lives to defend their and our ways of life. Brings Plenty was there with his four younger brothers: White Coyote, Medicine Cloud, Plenty Holes, and the youngest, Low Dog,” begins the Yellowstone icon in his latest update to social media.

As Mo Brings Plenty eloquently cites, today is the anniversary of a tipping point. On June 25, 1876, Native American forces, led by Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull, would defeat the U.S. Army troops of General George Armstrong Custer. This we know as The Battle of the Little Bighorn. This was The Great Sioux War of 1876.

The Yellowstone star’s words are a tremendously moving and pointedly poignant look at the peoples, the communities, the history, and blood he cherishes above all else. On his official Instagram, Brings Plenty shares a photo of the graves for several heroic ancestors integral to this anniversary:

“As Indian people, we have a chance to bring back those ways, and there is no better way to honor our ancestors than to do that,” he continues.

“The underlying emotion of anger is hurt and pain. As Indian people, we have had more than our fair share of loss and pain but have to stop taking our anger out on each other. We have to eliminate the ways we hurt each other. We have to stop the hate and jealously we harbor toward our own,” Brings Plenty addresses to himself and those he wishes to listen.

Instead of division, the Yellowstone icon says “We need to support, care, love, and forgive each other. That is the only way we will solidify who we are and what we stand for, and until we stop treating each other as the enemy, we will always be divided.”

‘Yellowstone’s Mo Brings Plenty: ‘We exist because our ancestors fought for us’

It’s a powerful call for unity amidst the anniversary for such a day. And as Brings Plenty states:

“We exist because our ancestors fought for us, but what they didn’t fight for, is for us to be divided.”

“To be united,” he says, is “to care about each other and for each other; to band together and fight for our causes as one is the foremost way we save our existence and all that is important to our ways of life.”

In doing so, the Yellowstone actor says a people can demonstrate their “love for each other, our people, the younger generations, and the generations yet to come. But, more importantly, it is the most profound way we can and should honor our ancestors.”

Above all else, Mo Brings Plenty calls for unity. “We have to unite and become one for all.”

“Forgive and make amends with someone you feel has wronged you or hurt you,” he asks. “Forgiveness is good, it is hard, but it is profoundly honorable.”

“It is a great day to be Indian,” he concludes. For more from the phenomenal Yellowstone star, read his full Instagram post here.
