Yellowstone star actor Brecken Merrill did a good deed yesterday (Tuesday) helping to aid a small hummingbird to its nest.

Merrill plays the young and curious cowboy-in-training Tate Dutton on the hit Paramount Network series. Merrill has become a Yellowstone fan favorite as the youngest of the Dutton clan. Tate is the son of Kayce and Monica Dutton and the grandson of the Dutton family patriarch, John DuttonHe spends his days on the ranch hanging out with his grandfather, played by Kevin Costner. He spends a lot of time watching the ranch hand cowboys work and learning the ins and outs of the ranching business. As he is John Dutton’s oldest grandchild, Yellowstone Ranch will likely be his to look after in the future.

Off-screen, Brecken is your typical pre-teen, eager to learn new things and find a place in the world. He’s recently taken a special interest in birds, often sharing his quests on social media. Only a few days ago he shares a post saying that he is his sibling have taken up owl pellet dissection as a hobby. While may seem an odd hobby to poke at owl vomit, young Brecken seems to enjoy it quite a bit.

Yesterday, the young Yellowstone star again took to social media with another bird post. In the Instagram post, he says and family members helped nurse a tiny hummingbird back to its home.

“We rescued a baby hummingbird this morning!” Merrill says in the Instagram post. “He’s now been tucked away in a new nest and mama bird has returned to duty.”

The Tuesday morning post tool in over 500 “likes” along with dozens of comments. Several social media posters commended the Yellowstone star for caring for the bird. Others tell Merrill they are excited for the return of Yellowstone for a fourth season.

Only time will tell what the future holds for Tate Dutton. Through the series so far he’s done battle with a rattlesnake, been abducted by an armed militia and even got his own horse. Yellowstone fans hope Tate’s future on the show will be pleasant as we await the new season.
